Hi there ray and all, regarding the above remark, I think that what happened to British Airways in the past under a different leadership of management is in the past, they obviously felt during that time period, that, they were making the right decision to pull out of Birmingham and concentrate on heathrow, Gatwick mainly, which of course they have, which has in turn over the last twenty years cost them dearly in PR stunts that have back fired, but that was then and now with this new person at the helm as Chief executive and chairman of British Airways, what Birmingham airport needs to do now is forget about the past, we're now in the present, the future is in front, so let's get British Airways back to the negotiating table and let's talk business and forget about the past, and let's think about the future of the airport... Andyc

Really BHX,MAN can forget about BA they i think are never going to return to both airports.Just think of the routes that BA could of gained out of BHX,But instead you have gained Vueling,Wizz air,Iberia Express,Norweigan, and thats just the start who knows who else you have in the future.
Im a Manchester fan but really wish we could get Wizz Air on board,it would open all kinds of routes to eastern europe.

Hi there andyc1, I agree in principle with the new arrival of loco airlines, but the total amount of growth that they will bring in the next 2 to 5 years or more, is not in the same capacity as a big boy or airline like British Airways will bring in, that's why having big carriers, medium and small carriers, this balances things out, so the airport will no then where it's growth needs to come from, if an airport only has one or just two major airlines, but has loads of medium or small airlines, then it's growth and expansion will take longer to establish itself, where as a large major airlines expansion is quite different, will just to wait and see what other announcements will be coming, hopefully some very good news, and as others have mentioned before, once the airlines are here, then the airport needs to advertise itself massively on social media, just tell about everyone you or pass the word on, to what Birmingham Airport offers, then when the response happens, then credit can be given where credits due...Andyc

I couldn't disagree more with you AndyC and I mirror the sentiments aired by others. BA is what stopped the growth of BHX in the 90's and was disasterous when they left. Now BHX has rebranded/balanced itself and is a lot more versatile and secure as a consequence.

What you have above is a monopoly and I for one would not like to see BA back at BHX. BHX is in a much better position with all 5 of the major European carriers with a presence at the airport, with an equally impressive number of full service short and long haul carriers. BHX should think long and heard before it considers giving that up!!!

Why oh why are people so obsessed with BA, they are quite small fish now in the middle of the dark blue sea. Yes they have there loyal customers out of LHR and on domestic flights from Scotland/MAN etc but these flights could easily be repaced by Flybe or Easyjet and most people wouldnt care less as long as they have the route. I agree BA out of BHX is not going to happen, well not a hub anyway. Flybe now connects BHX to nearly all of the old BA routes so we dont need them anymore and yes i agree with woody, the growth will come from the likes of Wizz/Norweigan and not BA.

However i do have a sneeky feeling that one day, maybe one day BA will surprise us all and introduce 1 route from BHX on one of our popular routes, just have a sneeky feeling about this one. Dunno why.

As our very own Ray has pointed out on another forum, if you take a look at the Wizzair timetable online, you will see another route has appeared in the drop-down menu, similar to how Poznan and Bucharest did before they were announced.

The only thing here is that the new route is London Luton, which we can only assume will not be an actual route. The questionis, what is up? Is it a website glitch or is it coving up a new route....

anyone know anything??

Posted on another forum that Wizz will start Luton-Palanga 2x weekly from March. Is that the new route?.The airport is in Lithuania so if it comes off a good catch for BHX.

Hi there all, referring to brumx comment about British Airways, yes I know that people have said that we need to forget about British Airways, yes some people may agree to what they did in the past was, yes I suppose hurt full of bad, when they detached themselves from majority of uk airports, then solely focused on heathrow and Gatwick, with minor play at Manchester, but that was under leader ship of Sir colin Marshall, he thought he was really big in what he did,but he wasn't, then came the Australian guy,Eddington, another one who also thought he was big, again no he wasn't.then came willie Walsh, he went from British Airways chief executive, to big boss of iag the overall umbrella company that ba,aer lingua,Iberia Airways Vueling are all part of IAG, all these named above, have all.thought they were big and better than one other, but they weren't, now ba has a change at the top, it needs to re attach itself like before and get back to the airline that it was..if it wants to get back that image from the past...Andyc

EK A380 should now be from March to compete with Qatar. Air bridge works starting soon. Just for confirmation as of yesterday it wasn't in GDS or on the Emirates website.

I don't think there's anything to be really gained with BA back at the airport. I don't think it really needs it.

Re:

Apologies my post was meant to read could be March rather than should be March, there is alot to do. As pointed out by nwoody stand 54C will be closed soon for works.

It was suggested that last week we would see an announcement to a European capital city. Technically we did get one with Ryanair announcing Madrid but I'd be a little disappointed if that was it. Something from Wizz could fit the bill quite easily and it seems very odd to me that LTN appears in the drop down menu, I mean of all the connections available via BUD and OTP that would probably be one that would never be used?

There are some very odd connections out there though.

I once went to book a BA flight from MAN-LHR, and, no word of a lie, the 1st option after the direct flights was via New York JFK!

Flybe have had some odd ones too, such as BHD-BHX-EDI, and let's not forget just recently Norwegian offered BHX-AGP-ARN and the likes!

Last night I was mooching about on Expedia for a potential trip to Ireland. When I got to the flight section the direct, 1h 40m, BHX-SNN flight was top, it was then followed by BHX-JFK-SNN with American and Aer Lingus. The journey time to Ireland would be 21h 15m and would add an extra £2105 per person to the fare.

Hearing that Air Transat could make Birmingham year round from next year. Would remain 1 weekly throughout, with A310 used in winter.

Thanks for the info User001. Its nothing to do with Westjet apparently looking at BHX is it ????

But this would be a positive development and keep TS at BHX.

After a few weeks of news after news, it appears to have quiet. Is this the calm before another series of storms ???

Just not like Barney, did you see the mast at the Fort Shopping centre blown over. How planes manage to land in these conditions I have no idea. However there were a few diverts.

Norweigan must be close, very close to announcing more news. Good to see that they have released seats on there existing BHX routes for late summer 2016, might book with them to Gran canaria for the first week in sept 2016.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
