Hi there all, as I have said before, Birmingham Airports problem is not just bringing new airlines, but holding on to them, you only have to look at Iceland Air, here for 12 months plus, then left, UA, AA, gone in the last three years. Birmingham Airports problem is itself, its what ever deals it agrees with airlines, that's its problem, bhx management have always put the airport on the world stage as big, but unfortunately it never has and never will, Birmingham Airport will always be a regional airport and not a hub airport as the management like to promote it as. Until bhx realise its not a hub airport will to late... Andyc

The statement from BHX regarding Flybe has an interesting line about two airlines already replacing five of their routes.

Obviously easyjet are starting GLA and EDI soon but what are the other three?

Flybe did do charters to PVK and EFL so I guess at a real stretch one could say these are to be covered by Jet2.

Hopefully an airline is ready to step in on another route or three?

Flybe Collapse

It is with regret to receive the news that flybe has entered administration and therefore ceased trading with immediate effect.

Those booked with flybe are advised to visit www.caa.co.uk/news for advice. Passengers due to travel with flybe should not to come to the Airport as there will be no more flights with the airline from the UK.

A number of routes operated by flybe are served by other carriers from Birmingham, and we already have arrangements for two airlines to replace five of its routes in the next few weeks. We will continue to engage with other airlines to replace the remaining capacity for our region and customers.

No further information is available.

Blue Islands have a Jersey flight showing on Thursday, so it looks like they will be taking over services to the Channel Islands

I’ve read a lot of speculation over who gets the Flybe slots at LHR but I was wondering how many slots have been freed up at CDG and AMS now?

I'm not sure how the slot system works at CDG and AMS, but I'm sure the administrators will view them as assets and therefore sell them to the highest bidder to recoup costs.

Rather ironic that people speculated Virgin bought Flybe as a means of getting more slots at Heathrow. They now might not get any, but in fact hand them to a competitor.

Silver linings and all - who ever thought easyJet would become Birmingham's 4th largest airline?

From the BHX press release about Loganair and Eastern.

Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport said: “This is great news and we thank these carriers for responding to the situation with flybe to replace the capacity for Midlands’ customers. It demonstrates that airlines realise the strong Midlands market and we look forward to welcoming these new carriers to Birmingham in the coming weeks. We would reassure customers that we are continuing talks with other airlines to backfill the remaining flybe capacity.”

What we need is our own airline.

F4a Air

All we need is some planes, a massive loan, operating team, executive board, aircrew and some fuel. Oh and some peanuts, Fruit Shoots and a tea bag with reusable cup.

Sorted. What could go wrong that has already not gone wrong. But we need to learn from the mistakes of others.

Any volunteers? Happy to through in my PPI refund to kick start it all.

Trying to cheer myself up...

Just to counter the often complained about Jet2 jingle can we get Ozzy to do ours?

Lufthansa and Swiss confirm reduced services to many destinations Inc BHX initially for rest of March. Frankfurt Munich and Zurich. Austrian already announced reduced frequency. More to follow ??.

We were going BHX to Frankfurt in 2 weeks but the flight has been cancelled. Alternative terrible timing offered but we're going to take the refund offered - don't want to need to quarantine either end if Govs change their minds meanwhile.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
