This is kind of ironic as Thomas Cook have cut the route but it is good to see Balkan doing well and hopefully TCX cutting it will encourage them to operate the 2nd flight early in the season.

Bookings are up for holidays to Bulgaria from Cardiff Airport this Summer
Leading tour operator Balkan Holidays says bookings for package holidays to Bulgaria flying from Cardiff Airport are up 10% this summer compared with last year.

To cope with demand from Welsh holidaymakers, the tour operator has added a second flight departing from the airport on Thursdays until September. This is in addition to the Sunday charter flight departure, enabling Welsh holidaymakers to extend a traditional seven day break to ten days if they wish, when making a booking this summer.

Balkan Holidays is offering great value for money prices - for example a one-week holiday starts from £335 per person flying on 26 July from Cardiff Airport and staying in three star accommodation in Sunny Beach. Ten nights at the three star Hotel Smolyan in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria, utilising the new Thursday flight from Cardiff on 2 August, costs £434 per person. Prices include return flights and transfers to the resort.

Bulgaria’s non-Euro status means eating out and everyday holiday staples in Bulgaria are also tremendous value for money.

In addition Sunny Beach, the leading resort on the Black Sea, regularly tops the Post Office Travel Money Holidays Costs Barometer compared with other holiday destinations in Europe. Other popular resorts including Nessebar and Pomorie also boast hours of sunshine, warm sea temperatures, several Blue Flag beaches and plenty of family activities.

This summer Balkan Holidays is offering:

I think they have a few extra destinations and flights this year so that could explain it. Still nice to see some old classics!

They are very short as I think they only have 1 of their own aircraft at present, nice to see an MD-80 but my god they
are noisy on take off

BH ,Fly Bulgaria and Bulair are all part of the same group of companies with cross fleet usage pretty much a given.

The entire group isn’t exactly large

Currently BH has just LZ-BHI with their other two in Saudi.

The A330 finished the summer season in 2017 and was sold not long after. Cant remember who bought it.It was nice to see the A330 in BRS and many other U K airports.

That BH AIR A332 or probably bits of it by now lie just a a few miles to the west of Rhoose and at a certain ex military establishment and it has been there since March 2017 I believe !

St Athan is across the Bristol channel from me.I live in Weston Super Mare. Straight across the channelby boat is not so far.

You can see CWL from Brean Down, superking. If you jump and down you could see St Athan too.

You're right about the boat. The White Funnel Fleet might have been a good feeder for CWL from the Weston area.

Can't even rely on the Waverley or the Balmoral. Both are out of service currently needing huge sums of money to get them back into passenger operation. I see the Balmoral moored forlornly at Princes Wharf in the centre of Bristol every week.

I'm very pleased to learn that the MD80s are still active. I've never been on a MD82 but flew several times on Paramounts's MD83s. I believe the MD83 is basically a more powerful version of the MD82. They are derivatives of the DC9, a type that was seen frequently at CWL and many other UK airports in the 70s and 80s, particularly in the form of the Spanish carrier, Aviaco.

Can`t remember when I last saw 2 MD-80 in day but both our flights in MAN on Saturday were and different ones to boot
I believe Liverpool is due a couple for the footie but I don`t think I am going over there at 2am

The BAC 111and the early B 737 were on par noise wise as the MD93 series. They were the days with noise and pollution did not enter the frame,not like today.
