I'm bewildered why aircraft from LGW opt for MAN over STN or was STN foggy too?

All to do with handling agreements.

MAN is a base for Virgin, so, makes sense to head here where the facilities to handle you are, especially as all your staff will be present and counted since you have 2 flights departing at the time it diverted, instead of a airport where you are put on low priority as you are operating into a non-served station. Handlers will often just get to you when they can, as opposed to a served station where you have dedicated staff and crew to take the aircraft out if hours are reached.
The same is said for BA, hence the BA477 diverting here, and the B777 the other day.

Hong Kong Airlines have a handling contract at MAN, so, in the eventuality that a divert is needed, MAN is the main priority.
Its worth noting, that the Hong Kong flight did not even attempt LGW this morning, it turned north just after AMS, and circled MAN a few times before landing. Its since gone back to LGW at 14:00

Emirates have run their Toronto flight through Manchester today and tomorrow. (Monday 2nd/Tuesday 3rd)

Todays flight, EK241 arrived from DXB at 1745, departing to Toronto at 1935.

Tomorrow, the EK242 will arrive from Toronto at 0940, and depart to Dubai at 1100.

Reason is due to crew change, as the A380 used is not the ULH version with crew rest areas.

Aircraft is A380-800 A6-EDR.

There maybe some diverts coming your way later this evening folks as it's now snowing at LBA!!!! :s_omg

This evening, Lufthansa A340-300 D-AIGI en route from Frankfurt to Boston performing flight LH420, diverted to Manchester.

The reason was due to a medical divert. The aircraft was well over the Atlantic before deciding to turn back to Manchester.

The flight has since taken off again (2135) and is back en route to Boston.

Re: Manchester Airport - General Thread

Air France Flight 72, CDG - LAX, diverted into Manchester earlier today after squawking 7700. The aircraft was just over Scotland when it made a U turn and descended to MAN, touching down around 14:00 local time. The aircraft then took back off at 17:42 heading back north over Scotland. The aircraft was F-GSPR, Boeing 777-228ER (B772). Reason currently unknown to why the aircraft diverted.

Emirates flight, EK17, from Dubai, diverted in Heathrow today at 1342, the aircraft was on approach before that to MAN at 3350ft on finals to runway but decided to ditch landing and head to LHR, reason currently unknown, the aircraft was at Heathrow for 2 hours before taking back off for MAN arriving at 1608.

This has lead to EK18, to Dubai, being delayed by 3 40 minutes, the flight was due for take of at 1410 but didn't get airborne until 1749.

Both flights were operated by A6-EDD

reason currently unknown

It was due to a TCX B767 making an emergency landing just before.

Fire cover due to that incident meant the EK would have landed under cat 10 fire cover, hence it was told to go to LHR.

Noted on flight radar this morning that Thomas Cook Airbus A330 G-OMYT enroute Manchester to Cancun turned back to Manchester over Ireland with a 7700 squawk and then landed. Anyone know why ?

Reported in the Leeds forum the BM9151 from Aberseen has diverted to LBA due fog at Manchester airport.

The BA799 Helsinki to London Heathrow looks to be working inbound to Manchester.

The Manchester bound KL1081 is holding over Doncaster according to FR24 so I take it Manchester is snow closed.

Monarch airlines 627 from Lanzarote operated by a321 G-OZBS has diverted into Faro on the way back to Manchester this evening.

Does anyone know why?

MAN has taken in 3 diverts due to todays wind:

Turkish B737-800 from IST to BHX
Easyjet A319 from BFS to LPL
Emirates B777-300 from DXB to DUB.

Seems like a challenging day for the pilots!

It's on its way again. Must of been a fuel stop which is strange for an a321.

Slightly late reply but a couple of years ago my in-laws had a tech stop in Faro coming back from Lanzarote to BHX on a Monarch A321. The pilot told them that flights generally depart ACE on runway 21 which takes them out over the sea, but on the odd occasion when the wind dictates they have to depart on 03 which takes them inland and due to the steep climb-out over the mountain the A321 cannot take on enough fuel for the complete journey so requires a stop en-route.

MAN taken a fair few diverts tonight.

Aer Lingus flights from Munich, Brussels, Faro and Berlin as well as a Ryanair flight from Rszescow all due into Dublin.

All flights diverted due to wind.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
