Just seen on the Leeds forum that MAN no longer accepting diversions.
interestingly there is, at this moment, no NOTAM with regards to diversions.

missed out on the treat of an An124 diverting in from Hahn of all place. VDA4015 RA-82079 around 1649

Scrub that post, the An124 apparently left yesterday. Back to sleep mode.....

RAF A330 ZZ238 landed at 0148. Not sure if it was a diversion as it routed straight to us and not Brize Norton
BCS108 TF-BBL 737-400 diverted in from EMA around 0410 (think this is still in)

We are snow closed! Chucled it down in Chorlton for a large part of yesterday but I woke up to see a snow dusting which was not quite in the Met Office forecast. I'm not sure it was in the TAF yesterday.

So far we have given up

0553 QR21 / QTR2LA B788 A7-BCW BHX (straight there)
0747 VS363 / VIR363 B789 G-VBEL LHR (held for around 20 mins)

I've no idea who does the TAFS and METAR trends (tempo / becoming etc), but frankly they are very unreliable at times. Fog that is supposed to clear soon but in fact gets worse; snow not forecast, and thunderstorms not predicted or wrongly predicted. MAN does seem to be jinxed at times.

I seem to recall some years ago MAN changed its policy so as not to start snow clearance until the snow has stopped. With moderate or heavy snow, that makes sense as it can be impossible to keep up and ensure safety standards are maintained. The metar reports earlier were showing light snow over a couple of hours and the RVR 1,000m. Perhaps depending whether it's dry powdery precipitation or wet snow, I'd have thought frequent brushing might enable the airfield to stay open or with minimum holding delays. I wonder if the runway had been de-iced. The metars of course are snapshots taken every 30 minutes so I appreciate the degree of snow can vary in between the reports for short periods.

as per the 0650 METAR, we are snow closed. Ethiopian heading back to Brussels and Stobart is holding over the Irish Sea, Steady snowfall in Chorlton.

Just another dusting here 4-5 miles to the east but if there are fewer staff available I'm afraid it's not going to be very efficient to clear and reopen.

With runway problems with weather it would have thought the bosses would have sorted out staff to sort runway out. It depends how many aircraft movements there are i suppose.
Happy new year to all on the Man forum.

I think you need to factor in how many people have been furloughed, and the reluctance of any airport or airline to bring anyone back as it will just increase costs when they are desperate to keep them down. This means everything is running on skeleton staff almost and clearly has impacts on operations when you have snow etc.

Basically they would rather suffer the disruption then bring staff off furlough.

A shock diversion.... Looks like KL1435 /KLM77M PH-BGG is into MAN from BHX

Indeed a bit of a surprise David. For a minute or two I thought he may be heading for LPL with that early descent if they were on R27

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
