Manchester: Infrastructure, Developments and Construction

Is the Terminal 3 extension still going ahead then?

Not that I know of and certainly not part of the current works. I expect they will come up with a new masterplan for that part of the airfield once the present scheme is completed.

I remember a few years ago posting, I think it was on Pprune, a link to MAGs planning application to Manchester City Council.

Hopefully the following link will work as the application, complete with plans and drawing, is quite detailed but well worth spending time looking at. As these are from December 2015 there may have been changes.

MAN is effectively going to be one huge building site!
At the time Pier C was being built I regularly flew on BA's 1-11s to and from Glasgow. At the time the trip, which was MAN-GLA-MAN-DUS-TXL, nightstop, return the next day, was popular with certain crews and I lost count of the number of times I heasrd the mantras, "Good morning ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard this Super 1-11 service from Manchester's premier building site to Glasgow" and on the return, "ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Manchester's building site with a runway". Plus ca change plus la meme chose.

I'm getting very excited about this. Multiple tower cranes gives and indication of how extensive this is going to be!

From Summer 2018 onwards additional aprons

that's the bit that I quite like. I remember when T2 was being constructed, that apron was used on occasion to park aircraft not in use so I wonder if something similar will take place. For anyone who first started going to MAN in the 1970s, this is a far cry from back then.

Or how about the original plan for T2?:

I think this shows where the previously consented aircraft stands are (grey shaded area) that are being brought into use now (green shaded area on plan I posted above) which allows the airport claim no new stands than previously consented.

On the image that Dobbo posted of the TP, the second pier from the left is only shaded light grey. Does that imply a final decision has not yet been made as to whether it will be built? Pier 4 is one side of gates only due to stands 21-27 being retained on C pier presumably.

The light grey pier is the USPBC pier so needs confirmation on that first. It will get built either way, but it just depends whether that is with, or without USPBC.

I wonder why they retain pier C.

I can only assume it's part of a phasing programme and may be linked to the ultimate decision on T1/3.

Looks like the A380 (code F so maybe intended for B779 as well) gates are on pier 3 so it minimises taxi conflicts. Assume this means EK will move their lounge.

Something else I'd not really noticed previously is that it shows a/c parked on non-contact stands beyond the end of the piers but presumably not conflicting with taxiway movements. Is there any suggestion that piers could be extended in the future or is it simply a way of maximising stands while containing costs?

I think they will be contact stands but with very long jet bridges. Whether the end of the pier will have enough space remains to be seen.

They look reasonably wide, but will probably need to have two floors for passenger movement to be smoothly segregated.

I am more ready to hold fire in the interior of the new terminal. Went through MUC yesterday, and the main departures area was enclosed with low ceilings but still felt spacious inside.

Whether the circulatory areas can pull this off remains to be seen, but I am less pessimistic than before.

Went past the airport today to pick someone up, so couldn't get the pics as promised (may do this in the next week though, as dropping same person off again).

I could see the far stands next to staff west have indeed been closed, and the fencing panels were in situ ready to be put in place.

The car park next to T2 (area 7) was still pretty much full, but apparently it will be 4th May before these start to get emptied out.

Looks better than before - still wish the shopping arcade was opened up more but it is a massive improvement from anything on site at the moment.

A rather fancy stock of portacabins is being constructed over by the cargo sheds towards staff west. They seem to have floor to ceiling Windows and looks a lot neater than bog standard workers cabins. Look to be where the project managers will oversee the operation.

Area 7 next to T2 closes to cars tomorrow, and should be empty by 14th with any remaining cars being removed to staff west (I'm not sure how they are so certain of that, I assume they may tow the cars around to staff west?).

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
