Prestwicks cull announced next week not suprising as its mostly bucket and spade routes now from them

The winter timetable is 12 routes, operating with 2 aircraft. The Stansted route has been dropped - who knows whether it will re-appear in next summer's timetable? I find it hard to believe that Ryanair cannot justify one flight each way per day between PIK and STN. Easyjet must be 'rubbing their hands' at this ludicrous decision as it will increase demand on their GLA to STN services. It makes you wonder how serious Ryanair are about their PIK base.

Is Stansted the only route to get dropped completely for the winter then SJM? The dramatising Scotsman newspaper made it sound like it was going to be much worse.

It might be a daily flight lost but Stansted had it's own operation severely cut last winter and I understand it's going to be must worse for them this winter.

They are also ceasing what, in the past, has been the very popular route from PIK to Barcelona Girona. This used to be a daily flight, but was cut to around 3 per week in last winter's timetable, before resuming daily status this summer. Again, it will be interesting to see whether it re-appears in next summer's timetable, especially as Jet2 are starting a service from GLA to Barcelona El Prat.

Ryanair had a major disagreement with Girona's local government which I believe controls Girona airport. Ryanair threatened to pull five of it's aircraft from Girona airport so I am sure this is the main reason why Girona has been pulled from Glasgow Prestwick airport as with many other UK airports.

There's no reason why a new Ryanair flight to Barcelona's El Prat airport couldn't work from Glasgow Prestwick airport. Jet2's operates alongside Ryanair to Barcelona El Prat from Leeds and I would think Ryanair will be keen to ensure Jet2 don't have the upper hold on the route from Glasgow International airport so I doubt it will take them long for them to move Glasgow Prestwick flights to the El Prat airport.

[textarea]Ryanair offers to expand from Prestwick Airport

Ryanair has pledged to continue operations from Prestwick Airport despite speculation that the hub could be for sale, the Evening Times reports. A spokesman for the budget airline said it wants to expand and is in talks about new routes from the airport, if a deal for cheap landing charges can be agreed (as ever, with Ryanair).

The Scottish aviation industry faces turbulent times after the Competition Commission told BAA to sell off either Glasgow or Edinburgh airport this week, which could mean both Glasgow and Prestwick are for sale at the same time.

New routes for next summer
Corfu
Crete(Chania)
Barcelona(main airport)
Bydgoszcz
Starting April bookabble from tomorrow

Excellent news.

Let's hope this is the beginning of a revival in PIK's fortunes.

The Barcelona route seems to be replacing Barcelona (Girona), which was due to re-start at the end of March, having stopped over the winter timetable. The new flights to BCN have the same flight numbers (FR7823 and FR7824) which had existed for years on the PIK- GRO route.

Girona airport must be really suffering. The airport has carried out multi million euro expansion over recent years on the back of Ryanair expansion and now Ryanair seems to be pulling many of their flights from there in favour of BCN.

Apologies first of all because I haven't had a proper Internet connection for the last month so it's been hard following developments. Did I read somewhere that Ryanair was launching some more routes from Prestwick or was I just imagining things?

I haven't heard of any more new routes from PIK, other than the previously announced Corfu, Crete (Chania), Bydgoszcz and Barcelona. I still find it very hard to understand that Ryanair have dropped the PIK -STN route totally. You can't tell me that, in the summer months, they couldn't justify at least one flight each way per day on a route that, until a couple of years ago, had three each way per day. Recession or no recession, Ryanair are making the UK flight taxes a convenient excuse to drop the route.

Starting PIK to Warsaw-Modin 3 weekly from november hope its not bad news for Wizz who are moving in there too

why on earth does Ryanair do that? I mean, there must be numerous other destinations they could pick at from Prestwick airport without having to stamp on the feat of other operators. :diablo:

This will be Ryanair trying to drive out Wizzair from Prestwick- the only other scheduled passenger airline who operate at PIK. As you say, they could have started any one of a number of new routes from Prestwick, but just happened to choose one which directly competes with one of Wizzair's only 2 routes from PIK!

Have added Rzeszow for summer 2013 and i think increased frequencys to
Ibiza
Wroclaw
Palma
Warsaw
Riga

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
