TFS 4 weekly
ACE 2 weekly
LPA 2 weekly
Theres alao a weekly Palma which increases in the summer they are obviously changing direction

The Eastern European type services aren't as busy these days so it does make sense to change direction. The new focus on Italy could also mean we see more destinations to that neck of the woods over the next year or so too.

No flights actually bookable but Carcassonne has appeard on the Prestwick drop down menu on the FR website

Confirmed 2 weekly from 31st march
Also though not new news Ibiza 3 weekly from 31st march

Fuerteventura now being offered from PIK for summer 2010, and another aircraft (PIK's 6th) to be based there, following the collapse of Fly Globespan.

Tha announcement about a 6th-based aircraft is excellent news for PIK. The demise of Flyglobespan is particularly bad news for GLA. Already, some individuals, on other message boards, have been making noises that GLA must approach Ryanair to dump PIK and move to GLA! Their arrogance is astounding. Hopefully, Ryanair's announcement that another aircraft is being allocated to PIK will shut these clowns up.

I agree with every word of that, what these so people you are talking about dont realise is that work is meant to start in a week or so on the new Ryanair hanger which will have 3 bays and rumours from people on the ground there suggest it will be built to accept the A320 family also?

Hello Red Dug (and SJM of course) - Happy New Year!

I've just had a peep at the dimensions of these two types of aircraft. Looking at these figures it would suggest that the A320 will already fit into the new hanger facility when it's completed.

A320 Dimensions. Wing span 34.09m (111ft 10in), length 37.57m (123ft 3in), height 11.76m (38ft 7in)
Boeing 737-800W Wing span 35.8 m (117 ft 5 in), length 39.5 m (129 ft 6 in), height 12.5 m (41 ft 2 in)

[textarea]Ryanair to open new maintenance hangar at Prestwick

Ryanair has announced it is to build a new hangar at Prestwick Airport, bringing 200 engineering jobs to the area. The £8 million hangar will be the airline's second maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at the Ayrshire hub. Between them they will maintain Ryanair's fleet of more than 200 aircraft.

The hangar is due to open in October 2010, with the Scottish Government contributing £1.5million to the project - £890,000 in Regional Selective Assistance and £640,000 in training grants.

Old news on here of course thanks to our resident forumers based in the area. I'm surprised that Ryanair is getting such a large hand-out for this but I guess at least it will be bringing much needed employment to the area.

[textarea]Ryanair add extra Prestwick flights

Ryanair has announced extra flights on a number of its sunshine routes from Prestwick Airport. From May this year, Europe’s largest low fares airline will add extra flights on its flights to Malaga, Alicante, Palma, Faro and Carcassonne. The changes mean Malaga now has seven flights a week, Alicante six flights a week, Palma seven flights a week, Faro six flights a week and Carcassonne goes to three flights a week.

New chief executive of the airport Iain Cochrane said: ‘This is excellent news for the airport. As well as these welcome extra flights, we also have new Ryanair routes starting to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands and Ibiza next month, plus summer flights to Jersey and Turkey with other airlines.’ Ryanair now has six aircraft at Prestwick serving 29 European routes.

[textarea]New routes take off from Prestwick Airport

Prestwick Airport saw the launch of six new Ryanair routes this week. They included three new services – to Ibiza, Fuerteventura and Carcassonne – plus the return of the summer season only flights Pisa, Rome and Budapest.

Ryanair now has six aircraft based at Prestwick serving a total of twenty-nine destinations that range from Sweden in the north to the Canary Islands in the south, and from Londonderry in the west to Hungary in the east. Ryanair’s Maria Macken said: ‘We are delighted to welcome passengers on board its new routes from Prestwick. Whether it’s clubbing in Ibiza, relaxing over a nice glass of French wine in Carcassonne or soaking up the sun in Fuerteventura, Ryanair has got it covered.

Someone on another forum says the FR service to Stansted is at risk.

Prestwick- London Stansted (rumoured to be being axed) (some months in excess of 25k passengers?)

I hope FR don't pull the route. It's the sort of route PIK really need to keep.

I knew about this im for a while fed up with bad news from this place this is another route FR have ruined down to 3 a day shocking flight times just like they did with BOH,last i looked havnt checked again there were 12 routes not bookable for winter,PMI,STN,CRL,CCF,GSE,IBZ,KRK,BGY,MJV,PSA,REU and CIA

GSE starting in EDI so thats another one gone,at least when the new hanger opens there will be plenty of space to store non flying aircraft

dug,

Is PIK your local airport and, if so, how far are you from GLA?

I know from personal experience (was at Ayr last year) that the train journey from PIK to central Glasgow is fairly regular though I seem to remember it took about an hour.

I suppose people whose local airport is PIK and didn't want to use their own car or a taxi would travel by train and change at Paisley to a bus for GLA. I can imagine that could be a bit awkward and time-consuming.

If the Belfast area, with a smaller population than the Glasgow area, can run two airports, seemingly successfully, one would think that Glasgow ought to be able to.

If PIK did close to passenger traffic, and I sincerely hope it doesn't, would you be reassured, at least a bit, if GLA grew as a result?

I can see Prestwicks runway from my house,FR made it clear the sunshine routes would be our future so i guess thats how the euro routes are going spouting the usual rubbish about the UK tax, the answer to your last question is no i really dont have any affection for Glasgow at all.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
