Flights to Porto now booked, looking forward to it (y)

Monarch with pre booked seats and one bag came in £150 cheaper than Ryanair seat only :)
When are you going, Ray?

Porto has been on our list for a while now but we never seem to get around to it. I'll be interested in your thoughts when you get back.

Good to see they can give the Irish Mafia a good run for their money. According to press today Monarch bookings up for next year.

Just a shame they are ditching Airbus.

I've been seeing tv adverts for them so hopefully that is helping and they will continue to expand into new markets and setup bases at new airports.

We're going in May, so a while to wait yet.

It's also been on my wishlist for a while but likewise it never seemed to happen. Monarch have some excellent prices at the moment which were just too good to miss.

It'll cost me a fortune once Mrs F sees the port wine tasting

It would put the northeast seaboard in their range but that's about it direct ...we'd have to wait for them to purchase 787s for the rest of America to come online!!!

Having given up on long haul flights a few years back, its rather unlikely Monarch would begin flying them again in the near future. Whilst some NE American destinations would be possible with the 737MAX, I suspect Monarch will want to make maximum use of their aircraft and so deploy them only on European destinations. The MAX does give them flexibility down the line if the want to return to flying long haul though.

Monarch have just cancelled the first Monday flight of the season to Larnaca on 27th March. Competition from other flights or just a bit early for extra capacity?

Monarch are adding 4 new routes/7 new weekly flights from BHX this summer :O)
  • BHX – Split (2x weekly) – New Destination for BHX
  • BHX – Valencia (2x weekly) – New Destination for BHX
  • BHX – Naples (2x weekly)
  • BHX – Rhodes (1x weekly)
No idea is this is another based aircraft and an increase in capacity, or have other routes lost out? Either, 2 new previously unserved destinations ticked off the list!

Excellent news!!! A few years ago i flew with Monarch to Split, travelled around various places in Croatia before flying home from Dubrovnik. The following year, Monarch cancelled the Split route which i thought was a great shame. Very glad to see it back along with 3 other new routes!

sounding positive but the question is, is this a new based unit at BHX or have other routes from BHX lost out?

Interesting little fact - as things currently stand with these new routes BHX is now neck and neck with LGW as the largest base in terms of destinations served. Obviously if routes have been cut to make way for them it changes but thought it was worth noting.

Well played Monarch...they keep identifying markets that other carriers have been unwilling to serve from here. Ryanair seem to have viewed their EMA-Valencia route as sufficient for the whole Midlands, so in their recent VLC expansion they chose Manchester, Glasgow and points east and west besides...but not BHX, and now Monarch have cashed in. Pretty much the same goes for Naples!

Here is the full schedule for all the new routes... I think Ray will be interested as I believe he was considering a trip to Valencia :)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
