Birmingham: Airline, Airport and Route Advertising

Use this prefix for new threads for Birmingham Airport
The "Where we Fly" has always been horrific and out of date ...

  • Jeddah
  • Melbourne/Orlando/Florida
  • Montego Bay/Jamaica
  • Reykjavik/Keflavik

....are four routes i could identify just by looking through the list that arent listed....

Thankfully very few people look at airport websites to see destinations but it woulndt harm the airport to update their own destination list!!!

I think that most airports use social media to advertise their "wares"

Just noticed in Shirley on the 49 bus a large exterior advert for Sun Express to Turkey - it also has the Birmingham airport logo
It’s been a while since I noticed a airline advert on the side of a local bus,

Birmingham airport doesn’t support funding on bus services not near the airport itself, but promotes it on local services serving other the airport. Eg X1, 97A and X12

That works if only the bus routes displayed in paint jobs was adhered to. Sat in the Navi last Friday at Kings Norton, saw two go past painted up for 35 & 50, neither of which get to there😇

I saw the same advert but can't for the life of me remember which bus it was on. I have a feeling it may have been the 97 but not 100% sure.

I have also seen the ad on a 97 bus, but they move these buses around various routes. Sun Express have also been advertising BHX flights on this forum recently.

I also noticed an advert on the back of a bus in Chelmsley Wood.
National Express ( main operator in West Midlands ) has been given advertising acceptance, they will be advertising Birmimgham Airport / Saudia with a 787-10 picture. Keep an eye out as more buses will get it!

Why BA, they don't use Birmingham airport. Why allow free advertising, when they refuse to use Birmingham airport. I would remove those ads, unless there was an agreement to use the airport for flights and not for non flight business.

Well given the amount of custom BA pick up from the West Midlands particularly to the USA why would they not advertise as they are in competition with the likes of AF,LH, KLM, Aer Lingus etc not to mention the likes of Emirates going East.

indeed. i saw adverts from Delta in Leeds earlier this week. I suspect the prospects of Delta starting from LBA are zero.

seeing adverts is not really a strong hint an airline is about to start a service from that city.

The idea of any advert is to target ANY potential market/audience. If the advertiser pays what is required no one taking that money is going to care one iota if that airline fly locally or not. I agree it's frustrating as we here in LBA have leakage to other airports - mainly MAN, but it is a fact of life we just have to live with

Hi there Finger66, I totally agree with that, but to throw around money in that fashion to announce in an advert to people, just to get there attention, to announce a,B,C and d. When they know full well know that it's not going to happen, that's false advertising, where the ASA need to act and severely fine those responsible for it. Then remove the offending issue being advertised...

Hi Andy the fact is the advert is for BA who are trying to attract business from the Birmingham catchment and has nothing to do with BHX as such although it may have some detrimental effect on BHX connecting traffic via the European/MEA hubs. BHX has no involvement in this advertising maybe they should be advertising themselves in the same way as the airlines apparently are?

What we need is a direct service to a USA hub but there sadly' seems little prospect in the immediate future.

Saudia do offer routes from BHX courtesy of their skyteam codeshare partner AF to CDG and onwards on SV metal. The CDG flights have a SV code.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
