We were boarded and ready to go 10 mins early but due to lack of staff there was no tug available

We were only 20 mins late pushing back but I think that the captain was annoyed as a strong head wind made the flight here 4hr and 14min, so he probably didn't need a delay.

Really nice flight with TUi, great crew.

My trip to ozz after 2 great flights in the A380 such a fabulous a/c to fly even in economy- my better half didn’t even realise we are about to land it is so quiet & smooth - was fascinated watching the flaps and spoilers in the massive wings. We are now in Cairns after a 3 hour flight in what felt like a very old 717 ( first flight for me) ..... & nice to see the Belfast is now white but still here ..

This should really be titled where you might be going given the Thomas Cook situation. We are due to do a P&O fly cruise to Malta on 10th October flying from BHX with Tui and return to Southampton on the ship 17 days later, however unusually for us we have booked through a travel agent and guess who yep its Cooks so trying to work out what will happen if it comes to the worst and Thomas Cook fail which I sincerely hope will not happen.

At present its sit tight as nothing has actualy happened and we have our tickets issued by P&O for a Tui flight booked through aThomas Cook travel agent under whose ATOL licence we are flying under, might be fun and games however it's only a holiday for us but thousands of folks jobs seem to be at risk.

Any suggestions or theories welcome!

It might be worth giving P&O a call now and asking where you stand if the worst should happen.

If Thomas Cook don't survive (and I sincerely hope that they do) the phone lines will be jammed, after Monarch went bust it took me well over an hour to get through to my credit card company to start the refund process.

Thanks Ray I've already done that and am awaiting a reply also spoken to Cooks who assure me everything is fine but I'm taking that with a large dose of salt I'm afraid.

Also like you got caught out with Monarch but that was easily sorted and way back had the same fate with Laker so if theres a moral there its don't book any flights on the same airline as me.

Completely forgot to mention, we flew from Birmingham on Thursday to Rhodes with Jet2holidays. Check in was bliss (checked in online) & so was security. Still seemed busy for October so had a great buzz about the place. Only criticism if there is one is that the terminal is starting to look tired around the area above checkin & the layout doesn’t encourage you to visit the old euro hub which in my opinion is the nicer & more relaxed part of the departure lounge. I’m sure the 500 million redevelopment will address all this though!

Flying to Malta tomorrow with TUI having had our booking with P&O viaThomas Cook sorted out P& O have taken over completely and in addition made us an incredible offer to extend the cruise with them by 10 days at absolute bargain price that Mr O'Leary would envy so this means we return to Southampton rather than BHX but as a consolation we get to visit Rome , Gibraltar and Lisbon amongst others on our way back home to Southampton then coach back to Brum.

Yes it is a ridiculous price roughly £20 per day for the two of us for the extra 10days, can't belive our luck although spending money will take a hit no doubt. On a different tack good to see today's news of HayesTravel taking over the Thomas Cook travel agency business and employing many of there old staff by all accounts.

I'm sure that there will be announcements for when you return.

We'll have an updated list of the most recent airlines and/or routes lost 🙂

Off to Gran Canaria tomorrow, second time using Jet2 ( who happened to be cheaper than TUI for this year ) and third time using BHX ! I’ll be sure to post my thoughts on the whole experience when I’m back 🙂

Have a great time 🙂

I will look forward to your trip report when you return, the last one you did was great 👍

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
