Posted elsewhere is the fact that Flybe are apparently releasing their Summer 2017 schedule tomorrow. It will be interesting to look at the peak week services over the next couple of days.

I do understand that the previously suggested 60% increase may have been considerably reduced.

Yes Flybe had originally applied for 60% more slots at MAN next summer, but has now been trimmed to a more realistic 18% with 3-4 new routes.

It's also worth noting Loganair have applied for their own independent slots, so, the 18% increase doesn't include them.

Had a very quick look at the BE timetable.

I hope there is more to come because at present it looks like a reduction not an increase.

Good to see Japan being pushed, although we know work is going on behind the scenes.

This (and Korea) would be a tough one to crack because:

1. I don't think it works with a leisure carrier so would realistically need to be JAL or ANA.
2. JAL and ANA have high cost bases that would need to be overcome with yield and premium traffic.
3. I also don't think is works seasonally, and would need to be at least 4x weekly.
4. Geographic location of Japan and Korea make transfer traffic at either end difficult, so it would need to predominately supported by point to point traffic.

For these reasons, such a route would be a massive coup for MAN and the wider North of the UK.

To be honest, if the price is right, many people don't mind a slight detour to their final destination - I would say Korean Air would be the likely candidate for an ICN route and a JAL 788 for TYO.

Any of these routes would have me, without a doubt, jumping up and down with joy!!

Flybe Summer 2017

Having started to look at Flybe's summer schedule I have decided that not only are half the destinations not loaded, but also many details are in a state of flux and constantly changing.

Because of this I have decided to call it a night and I will pay their site another visit tomorrow when, hopefully, things might have settled down a bit.

There is definitely a fourth wave of flights to those domestic destinations that have been loaded but, as I previously said things are changing - for example Glasgow was loaded for the summer but now only goes as far as 25th March, although this has changed as I type!!

Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Being realistic the best MAN or BHX could hope for is Charters to Korea like Glasgow had this year.
With regard Japan as said already JAL & ANA have high cost bases and have cut LHR services from 3 and 2 dailyrespectively to just 1 and 1 - over the past decade.
I see very little chance of Japan from the regions.
Also NAX longhaul from the regions is now looking unlikely in 2017.

I see JL 788 from MAN to NRT. Cathay isn't any different in terms of cost bases and MAN have successfully held them with much bigger capacity. A KE 332, whilst a perfect fit, could be some way away

I accept a Japan or Korean airline will be a tough nut to crack. I do not accept that the best that can be hoped for is a series of charter flights.

Plainly there is work going on behind the scenes. The call to arms clearly indicates that irons are in the fire and a few more commitments might make a material difference to the viability of a route from MAN. I don't think the comments would be made flippantly.

ANA operate daily from DUS, which shows that it is not impossible for a catchment of MANs size to attract a Japanese airline.

NAX long haul from MAN (and EDI) next summer is looking more likely than ever!

It's not looking likely for BHX, but for MAN, I've now seen quite a few pieces of seperate info that at the very least, MAN will have a daily NYC route on the -Max from June 1st.

Do bear in mind that the Dusseldorf area has one of the highest concentrations of Japanese people in Europe

That is true - for MAN it will be about getting the business connections on board, which MAN have clearly identified and are trying to do something about.

User001 I hope you are right (more expansion fron the regions would be great), but I have it on very good authority that the MAX's will not be flying the Pond in S17 they will deployed on Scandinavia to Canaries due to internal issues at NAX

I can't reveal too much at this stage but several pieces of the puzzle are coming together to show the Max will be at Manchester from June 1st, it may even make a few appearances before then, but, for once, there are a few solid pieces of information from a few places.

As the Norwegian Max has physically not been built yet, of course there could be delays, but, it's certainly planned for June 1st. It's planned on Oslo-Canaries and selected other routes from delivery until June 1st.

MAN will be first, then EDI, but for one reason or another, BHX seems to be out of the frame for now.
