Off the top of my head I can think of 23:

Belfast (Flybe, easyJet)
Paris (Flybe, Air France)
Brussels (Brussels Airlines)
Amsterdam (Flybe, KLM)
Copenhagen (SAS)
Reykjavik (Icelandair)
Berlin (Flybe)
Madrid (Norwegian, Ryanair, Monarch, Iberia)
Rome (Monarch)
Athens (Aegean Airlines)
Lisbon (Monarch)
Warsaw (Wizz)
Budapest (Wizz)
Bucharest (Wizz, Blue Air)
Sofia (Wizz)
Bratislava (Ryanair)
Vilnius (Ryanair)
Doha (Qatar)
Delhi (Air India)
Islamabad (PIA)
Ashgabat (Turkmenistan)

I got 25 for this year (I haven't included Belfast or Edinburgh).

Brussels, Sofia, Prague, Copenhagen, Paris, Berlin, Athens, Budapest, Reykjavik, Dublin, Rome, Madrid, Bratislava, Bucharest, Lisbon, Warsaw, Vilnius, Amsterdam, Valetta, Ashgabat, Doha, Bridgetown, Islamabad, Delhi and Beijing.

The main European ones missing are probably Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, Vienna, Riga, Tallin and Ljubljana.

Edit - 25 Istanbul is not a capital, DOH!

Now, i don't know whether to claim this as a record, but on yesterday's ZB flight back to BHX from Faro i counted no less than 14 wheelchairs bussed to the aircraft in advance of the passengers....

It made me think later, is there a maximum number (%-wise) that can be carried on a plane?

Hi there ray and all, does anyone know what the monthly passenger numbers for December last year 2015 for Atlanta airport were at all...Andyc

No idea about the number of wheelchair users but 14 seems a lot, I've only ever seen two or three at the most.

December doesn't seem to be out yet, keep an eye on the link below.

great news, and looks like we had a cracking December....

See the BHX Official Press Release below:

Birmingham Airport Celebrates A Record Breaking Year Of Passengers In 2015
12th January 2016

Birmingham Airport has celebrated its most successful year to date, handling 10.2 million passengers during the 2015 calendar year – almost 5% more than the previous year.

2015 also ended with the busiest December on record as almost 700,000 passengers used the airport, up 10% from December 2014.

Overall, 10,188,889 passengers travelled through the airport in 2015 – the first time the airport has broken the ten million passenger mark in a calendar year in its 75 year history. Records were also set for its busiest month ever in August and for the busiest day ever on 28th August 2015.

In December, 683,291 passengers travelled through Birmingham Airport’s terminal, 60,000 more passengers than the previous year and the busiest December on record.

Long haul traffic saw the greatest increase during the year, with a 21.4% increase from 2014 due to greater capacity from Birmingham to destinations such as Dubai, Delhi, Amritsar and Beijing.

Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport said:

“2015 was a fantastic year for Birmingham Airport as we not only handled more passengers than ever before but we also broke the news that eleven new airlines were being added to our growing list of carriers.

“With brand new services launched to Reykjavik, New York, Madrid, Warsaw, Budapest and Poznan, plus additional frequencies added to key hubs such as Dubai, Istanbul and Delhi, we are seeing more airlines realise the huge benefits of flying to and from Birmingham due to its extensive catchment area and strong economy.

“Looking forward, 2016 is set to be even busier as we get set for the launch of Qatar, Blue Air, Iberia and Czech Airlines, as well as welcoming the Emirates A380 aircraft each day from March.”

Overall in 2015, scheduled traffic grew by 5.2% and made up 84% of the overall figure. Charter grew by 3.8% and made up 16% of the total for 2015. This included twice-weekly direct flights to Beijing in the summer of 2015.

Scheduled traffic which experienced more than 100% growth included Madrid, Budapest, Turin, Salzburg, Reykjavik, New York- JFK and Warsaw.

Scheduled traffic in December accounted for 91.7% of the total with charter passengers making up the remaining 8.3%.

The greatest growth for new scheduled routes in the month of December was to Barcelona (+207.7%) followed by 100% growth on new routes to Palma de Mallorca, New York-JFK, Warsaw, Madrid and Budapest.

Charter routes which experienced significant growth in December were Fuerteventura (+188.4%), Madeira (+132.9%), Gran Canaria (+109.8%), Cancun (+85.5%) and Antalya (+72.7%).

Some good figures there, after a slightly disappointing November it's good to see that December pulled things back

Hi there ray, can you please let me know where these so called 11 new airlines have come from that Mr Kehoe keeps on talking about, that have been either added or new to the airport...andyc

Hi mate, I believe that they are

American Airlines
Icelandair
Norwegian Air Shuttle
Vueling
VLM
Wizz Air
Blue Air
Iberia
Czech Airlines
Qatar Airways

The eleventh appears to be the Chinese flights which this year look to be with Capital Airlines.

Hi there ray, I thought that American Airlines and Icelandair had previously flown from Birmingham before, and that they were only resigning up again and not new to the airport... Andyc

Icelandair were new to BHX in 2015.
AAL are not new in that sense, but the route they are operating is.Also when you take into account AAL had a break of about 10 years, they might just as well be a new airline to BHX.

Iran

Now that sanctions have been lifted and Iran reported to be on the verge of buying hundreds of new Airbus Aircraft, i think it will only be a matter of time until BHX is connected again to Iran. I know BHX has disappeared from the Mahan Air Website but it doesnt have to be them. The flag carrier Iran Air may start to expand rapidly also and they decide to launch flights to BHX. Will be an interesting one to watch over the coming months/years.

1000th POST

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
