Hi there Ray and all, we have probably been over this issue or point many times about landing charges at birmingham airport. But looking at there fees, £11.22 per tonne or part, if an a380 on maximum weight take off is 562 tonnes at £11.22 per tonne or part, does this work out as £6,305.64 per tonne at maximum weight take off or part tonne at £2.80 is £1,573.60, are these the correct figures or not... Andyc

Airports usually publish standard landing charges on their websites although airlines will often come to a private agreement with airports with reduced fees. This can be done by guaranteeing passenger numbers, using quieter periods of the day, parking on remote stands etc.

Hi there Ray and all, was having an extensive look at the construction of the new terminal being built at Manchester Airport, wow is what my reply is. So how many years are Manchester Airport currently ahead of Birmingham Airport, 10 or 15 years ahead. Well once this is completed, they will be possibly 20 years ahead of Birmingham Airport, way ahead in my own estimation. This is where Birmingham Airports management are just sitting on the fence, watching every one else expand, then about five to ten years time, then suddenly decide that they are going to build another runaway as well as another terminal. Sorry too late to expand then, while everyone else is catching them up and overtaking them. Tottington about another runway and terminal takes a lot of planning, time tandem money and should have been in the planning five to ten years ago, and not in the next five to ten years too late. This is where is well lagging behind its competitors... Andyc

Andy, not certain why we are comparing Birmingham to Manchester for? Both very different airports now! Back in the 70's was when Manchester really started to expanded, Birmingham has never had that ambtion to be a large major international airport and just trundled along in the 70's, 80's, 90's and are of course are restricted by the lack of room around the airfield, plus we don't have the money or investment availaile at present to expand like Manchester can. We are never going to be as big as Manchester, I class the gap between the airport to be more like 'lightyears' than 20 years now!!

Latest punctuality table out. Getting worse at BHX. 5th WORST in the UK at 18.2 mins late on average. Ouch.
Is that delayed departures? Delayed arrivals would be of more importance to most passengers.

We know it's quite common for aircraft to depart after their advertised push back departure time but they often make up some or all of the time en route.

It is delayed departures. Here's the chart:

Addendum: this information might be better in the General Thread than in the Random Stuff thread so could someone please move these posts over? (y)

The French ATC's are going on strike again this week. May affect the routing of any BHX flights over, to or from France.

French on strike? Never!!! They seem to have about 10 ATC strikes every year!!!

Interestingly i've never ever heard of a UK ATC strike, are the UK ATC banned from striking??

It's all a bit of nonsense really isn't it? They are talking about a difference of a minute or two between the larger airports, Big deal. Must have run short of wedding story's.
Did notice however how well Heathrow is coping with just 2 runways. The London BBC better drop this story before everyone notices and wonders why the nation has to pay for it's third runway.

Heathrow should never have had the third runway. Gatwick is in dire need of a second, and dare I say it BHX could've done with it to complement the HS2 link.

But no, let's try and force everyone to use one southern (not even central to the country might I add so it's just convenient for people who live in London) hub that's in a densely populated area and requires major works just to clear the space to build the runway.

And breathe...

Evening all,

Quickish question.....does anyone know what's causing the delays at BHX at the moment? It's not the French strike now for sure. A lot of flights are leaving around 1hr late or more. An MT from DLM came in roughly on time earlier, but still left an hour late. Is it security issues? ATC issues?
Before the French strike it was business as usual, the strike day delays mostly resetting themselves overnight. But after that it's been a lot of flights with a lot of delays. Some small, others not so.
Any glimpse into this would be helpful.

Cheers in advance

Karl

Thanks Sam,

Could you tell.me what the craic is with this morning's Thomas Cook to ZTH? Almost three hours late leaving. Magically it will leave before or just after the three hour marker, making arrival in ZTH before the allotted block time, therefore no compensation payout to the delayed passengers. Is or was the plane tech?

Cheers

Karl

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
