Direct Edinburgh-Istanbul link ‘will be first of many’

Edinburgh airport’s new owner has committed itself to creating more direct links with global destinations after welcoming the inaugural flight from the capital to Istanbul.

Global Infrastructure Partners bought the airport for £807 million from BAA last month and said securing more direct routes was vital for the wider economy, a sentiment shared by the SNP, which called for air passenger duty to be devolved if Scotland is to attract more airlines.

Regardless of what the airports new owners want or what the Scotsman says Edinburgh airport is unlikely to gain the substantial increases in flights they want. Edinburgh only has a population of around 495,360. So I don't see how Edinburgh can pick up more "direct links with global destinations".Glasgow is in a far better position to attract new flights with a population of over 598,830 with a Greater Glasgow population of over a million.

Edinburgh Airport seeks direct Las Vegas flights

It is the universal land of excess and the gambling mecca of the world – a destination where roulette wheels and blackjack go hand in hand with showgirls and luxury hotels.

Now holidaymakers from Edinburgh could be able to fly direct to Las Vegas, with airport chiefs admitting it was an aspiration to have seasonal flights to the Nevada city.

Great news for EDI. I would've earmarked this as A3's next destination in the UK. Any idea of the frequency?

only issue for this would be the one hindering the proposed Shanghai-MAN route... slot availability!

I would expect the routing to be PVG-ARN-EDI, but it is still taking up slots that could be used for a route queueing for a long time and (we think) next in line to receive slots, after Barcelona has been launched.

They are now suggesting it will be one of those "Scheduled Charter" flights ?? What on earth is a scheduled charter flight. Surely it is either one or the other and if so would this be allowed in the slot constrained Shanghai Airport ??

I believe the proposed BHX-PEK last summer was a Scheduled Charter ?

Might it operate from Hangzhou, branded as Shanghai? A scheduled charter I think is possibly when it can be booked independently, rather than just through a tour operator? For example, the 'charter' KE Glasgow flights are only available to Koreans booking through a tour guide.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
