One aspect which may be influencing airlines to suggest early resumption dates is good old money. Some folk will see these dates and assume that the airline knows something they don't know and if the price is right (cheap) they may well be tempted, only to find that, further down the line, all they have done is contributed to the airlines' liquidity and they are then left with the unenviable task of trying to get their money back. Caveat Emptor.

I know all businesses, including airlines need to maximise their income/revenue but stating unrealistic start dates is equally not the way forward. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing more I would like than airlines to be able to resume services in May, and I/we shouldn't be saying they won't but we have to be brutally realistic about the situation we find ourselves in and social distancing will be here until at the very least the end of May, so cramming 189 people into a B737-800 before that date is just not achievable. Unless some form of being allowed to carry one pax on each side of every row, e.g. 1A, 1F etc. or something similar becomes allowed then that would give some revenue. But you still have social distancing within the airport building and general boarding to manage. Not impossible I suppose, but a major headache. We need to defeat COVID19 in one go and not risk starting a second wave. This situation hurts!

If just one single person on this planet has covid-19 and they are among a group of people (in a bar for example) then it starts again! only way to get rid of this virus is to either all get it and become immune but sadly many deaths or find a cure! very worrying situation we are in . My parents who are 69 and 70 years are due to fly to ALC on 18th may, they have told me its an absolute no no they will be flying on that date and im 100% with them on that decision. My guess is around mid summer flights will recommence again.

Ryanair have increased the Leeds to Alicante service from 5x to 6x weekly during the peak summer season (June 7th until August 30th) with a Sunday a flight being added.

I presume you will ensure , before booking, that Spain will be open. Just read elsewhere today that only those with green residency permits (whatever they are) will be accepted for entry purposes.
It said that 2nd home owners won't have such permits. Don't know if this is true or not but worth checking out I would have thought before handing your money over.

Well Wizz Air are going to restart quite a few UK to Eastern European destinations routes from next Friday, May 1st.
Will be interesting if Ryanair Group follow suite.

Its looking like profit over health from what I can see! Our daily death rate aint going down at all at the moment, as soon as the general public hear and see some restrictions lifted in some industries they will all be doing the same, like sheep! gotta get rid of this virus now!

I think even that may be a little early. I have a holiday to Andalucia booked for the end of September and I think I will bite the bullet and cancel and forfeit my deposit (not keen on shelling out the balance of another £2k or so not knowing if I will ever see it again) as I can't see anything getting back to normal before next Spring. Even if the destinations are open and fully functional not keen on the idea of sitting on a plane next to who knows what. Cowardly maybe. Self preservation certainly.

Its the way they think, even though there probably going to end up skint they must have a holiday! Plus the boredom of been at home will bring on thoughts of a holiday. Like in one of my other posts I believe one half of the population will be ok, maybe even better off through saving money, mortgage holidays etc and the other half will basicly be screwed ( part time workers, ones within airline industry, local shop owners, bar and club employees etc)

Also to note that if you did fly to andalucia in sept when you get there no one else might be there including your favorite bars and eating places. From what im seeing many are selling up in spain !

I have noticed on the Travelzoo e-mail updates that there seems to be a lot of UK holidays being offered as fully refundable if the lockdown ends up extending over your booked dates.
Seems a sensible way of doing things.I don’t know if this idea would transfer to european holidays with flights involved and the uncertainty of whether your hotel would even be still in business by the time you get to go.

I suspect this week by week cancellation approach is a delaying tactic, as passengers can only claim a refund once their flight is officially cancelled. Even then, there are numerous reports of it being nigh on impossible to get your money back from Ryanair without a protracted fight. Martin Lewis has reported them to the relevant authorities as they’re legally bound to give a refund (rather than a voucher). Will O’Leary be bothered? Very much doubt it, his only interest will be seeing Ryanair through this crisis. Can’t blame him for that but that’s little consolation for the customers, many of whom will also be cash strapped.

Just to give you an update on my experience of the Ryanair position. I fly LBA/AGP predominantly with Ryanair around a dozen times a year Plus holiday flights elsewhere. As the Covid situation unfolded I was able to comfortably return with Ryanair and had flights booked again in March with Jet 2 and then a further return flight with Ryanair in early April. Jet 2 cancelled and refunded in around 18 days. Thank you. Ryanair emailed several times; flight cancelled you’ll get and we are processing a refund, we are still processing your refund twice, we are not processing your refund now here’s a voucher to use for 12 months if you insist on a refund you’ll go in a queue and it will be processed when the situation is over and the final email - we sent you a voucher, if you don’t use it in the next 12 months you can have a refund then, please confirm you have a voucher.
My outlay is a paltry £90 and obviously I really hope that Ryanair and Jet2 come out if this well. On the one hand I want to support them both (a voucher + 5% would have been a sweetener like EJ). However, Ryanair’s history shows little loyalty to anyone. Their reduction in summer flights to AGP being one example. If things go badly and they retreat from LBA or worse where does that leave people with vouchers? I’ll put my money where my mouth is and stick with them in the hope that the “new normal” is not too bad.
