What rival? Only possibility would be Easyjet and they are even more cautious when it comes to operating small bases than Ryanair.
Eurowings, Vueling, Norwegian are just some that come immediately to mind. Changes in aviation European rules may make the U.K. attractive to the likes of South West or other American airlines.
Were entering a new age, the world is our oyster.

Nothing stopping them operating from now.

Dart PLC has a completely different business model to FR. LBA is also Jet 2's HQ base. They are highly profitable and work the leisure market alongside their integrated package holiday company in the UK superbly. FR margins are tight and they have extensive European wide bases. Sadly, they have been hit by Brexit and the reduction in Eastern European traffic. To compare the success of Jet 2 at LBA with Ryanair is like comparing apples with pears. Ryanair has around 85 bases, Jet 2 12.

Thanks Statto...the answer isnt black or white, it's what they are stating to UK PLC. I'd rather go on the facts than try to spin something that they haven't said or claimed...unless you know more than what they are telling their shareholders from insider LBA knowledge?
Has to be hoped they have not lied to us shareholders.
The news Wednesday, from the new Boeing CEO, that it will be 18 months for the 400 grounded new planes to all become fit to fly, this date starts from the day alterations and flight training starts at least three months away. Depending were the Ryanair aircraft are in the order stream, it could be 2022 before the first batch arrives.
We were told at the last AGM that lease agreements could be extended on the present fleet and therefore the delayed arrival of 50 new MAX aircraft would not have an adverse effect on the companys fleet situation.
Any complaint that having no MAX aircraft adding to their fuel bill weak, as the global airlines total fuel bill for 2019 dropped by $9.5 billion, this when more litres were bought, Ryanair must have gained a financial benefit as the spot price dropped 15% over the year.
The Coronavirus and weaken demand for oil especially from China, has added a billion gallons of oil a week to stockpiles this month a time of maximum useage, driving around this week seen a 3 or 4 pence forecourt price drop, avaition fuel dropping in price as well.

Just had a look at Rodez ( never heard of it). Looks really nice. Would be nice to get some really different weekend break routes like this.

Believe it or not Leeds/Bradford was actually connected to Rodez about 2-3 years ago by Eastern Airways on a 2x weekly one-stop service via Southampton. (No need to change aircraft)

If Ryan are going to Rodez it must ne near somewhere that people have heard of.

Ah yes. It is only 150km from Toulouse.

Perfect - they will probably end up calling it Rodez, Toulouse.

I'd have thought that they have probably done some sort of deal with the local authorities to boost inbound tourism into the area.

Interestingly the only route I can find is currently operating from this airport is to Paris Orly operated by Amelia International who are a Slovenian outfit that used to be called Aero4M. Even more interesting this route was previously operated by Flybe (until Jan 20) on a PSO basis. Further background here https://simpleflying.com/airline-startup-amelia-international-airlines-regourd-aviation/

So it seems as though Ryan have done their usual and are creating a market from scratch probably with oodles of support and zero fees from the airport. If it works then all well and good. If it doesn't it won't last long.

It begs the question however of how they can spare an aircraft on an experemential route when all the talk has been of cut backs due to aircraft shortages because of the MAX affair. Ryan move in mysterous ways.

There never was a shortage of aircraft, leases were extended on the current fleet to take care of the Max delay, in addition the reduction in 5 million seat sales, has reduced the fleet need by 30 aircraft.
Like Brexit just an excuse to passive the financial markets.
At the turn of the year statements released stating higher fuel prices impacting on the bottom line, the coronavirus is hugely reducing the demand of avaition fuel and oil is being stored to around a billion barrels a week as production not yet reduced. Were getting calls every hour of distributers trying to move stocks, prices plunging.

Slightly off topic I know but does the dropping of these routes by Wizz indicate some sort of trouble in the camp or is it just a case of dropping routes that aren't working? Anyone know?

Don’t know what’s going on with Wizz, they dropped DSA to Budapest despite excellent loadings and a recent upgrade to an a321.

This is normal headline-grabbing Ryanair hype about nothing! Wizz Air have withdrawn services on a few routes, (similar to any airline) and now Ryanair are launching "rescue fares"...
Wizz are dropping Prague, Oslo and Stavanger at the end of May from Luton however launching Vienna and Gran Canaria in April and June respectively. Wizz are continuing to grow outside of Eastern-Europe and are now challenging RYR and EZY on other popular sun and city routes (VIE and LPA for example). I'm sure Ryanair are conscious of Wizz's growth, especially due to Wizz having a lower cost base than Ryanair hence one of the reasons for Ryanair setting up new "carriers" (Buzz, Malta Air etc) with cheaper contracts and therefore reduce their own cost base. Wizz Air also posted strong financial results last November and will be the number one airline in LTN this summer (based on seats), as well as an ever growing presence at LGW and SEN. I don't think they'll be going anywhere fast!

The other routes Wizz Air have "pulled" is actually made a little clearer here:
Wizz Air will also suspend flights to Odessa for almost 2.5 months from March 26 to June 5, 2020 due to repairs at this airport. For passengers who bought tickets for canceled flights, the airline offered rebooking on alternative routes, a full refund, or crediting 120% of the cost of the ticket as a loan to their WIZZ account.
“Although the closure of the airport was caused by reasons beyond our control, Wizz Air apologises to all passengers who have experienced inconvenience,” the low-cost added.
The situation will affect passengers of six Wizz Air routes from Odessa - to Berlin, Budapest, Bratislava, Gdansk, Katowice and Wroclaw.

These are the other routes that Ryanair will be "rescuing"

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
