I would like to think that the fact that we have still got 3 aircraft based here given the expansion at Manchester is testament to how well we are doing and can quite rightly stand on our own 2 feet. Ryanair launch new service Leeds Bradford – Girona Barcelona

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) are pleased to announce that Ryanair are introducing a three times weekly service to Girona Barcelona, serving the Costa Brava region in Spain commencing on 1st April 2014.

Flights are scheduled to depart from LBA on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and will operate throughout the summer season until the 25th October. This new route will provide a direct gateway to the popular coastal holiday resorts on the Costa Brava and enable independent travellers to gain easy access to the Languedoc-Roussillon region across the border in nearby France.

Girona itself is a historic Catalan city whose picturesque old town whose colourful painted houses overlook the river Onyar. The historic city walls are also a popular sight for visitors whilst there are a number of food and cultural festivals over the summer period ideal for families.

For those who wish to visit the regional Catalan capital of Barcelona, the city is less than an hour journey away by car or train. For Yorkshire Rugby League supporters, the Ryanair route to Girona also provides an alternative flying option when watching your team play Catalan Dragons in Perpignan.

The addition of Girona Barcelona will mean that Ryanair will serve a total 23 destinations from Leeds Bradford in summer 2014 flying to 7 countries connecting Yorkshire with Europe.

Tony Hallwood Leeds Bradford’s aviation development and marketing director said: “We welcome the introduction of Ryanair’s 9th destination in Spain and expect that it will be a popular route for our Yorkshire holidaymakers. We also look forward to welcoming Spanish visitors to Leeds over the summer period, alongside visiting the nearby historic city of York.”

Ryanair sales and marketing manager Maria Macken said: “Ryanair is delighted to offer passengers in Yorkshire the chance to visit Girona in the North East of Catalonia this summer. With three weekly flights from Leeds Bradford it’s the perfect destination for a short break or a longer stay.”

It also now looks like Ryanair Summer 2014 the scheduled has been finalised as some previous non based flights have now been swapped to operated by the LBA based aircraft that had spare slots to be filled. Milan Bergamo will be closed from May 13th until June 2nd so flights will operate into Milan Malpensa (MXP). It looks like the Riga route is been dropped for the summer along with flights to Barcelona, Vilnius and Reus.

Sadly what you have said on here before and what you see above is what we will get this summer A300boy! So yes its a contraction in operations this summer as you rightly predicted late last year, But it seems to be the case at other UK bases are also effected so not just LBA due to expansion from both Manchester and London Stansted.
The good news I suppose is that the LBA based retains its 3x based Boeing 737-800WL aircraft operation while the locally based flight and cabin crews will all keep there jobs. Hopefully when Ryanair do start to receive there new aircraft deliveries from September this year we may see some of them lost routes and rotations been re-established.

Never been so unhappy to be right before !! So passenger growth from Ryanair this summer is very unlikely even if the flights are 100 % full.

As the new chief commercial officer at Ryanair, David O’Brien has some big plans, not least adding to the budget carrier’s customer base at Leeds Bradford Airport.

“Leeds Bradford Airport has tremendous potential,” Mr O’Brien told the Yorkshire Post. “Leeds and Bradford combined have a very significant population base, bigger than Manchester in terms of city populations. The statistics show that Leeds has great potential.

“To a very great degree in Leeds, the routes are for leisure, taking people into foreign hubs. The absence of business style routes is something that, over time, could be added. We are looking at that as our on-board product evolves to attract more business people. We already have quite a lot of business travellers but in an informal way.

Just noticed Ryanair have had to make the following schedule time changes for this coming Friday, March 14th due to a strike by the Dublin Airport Authority.

Due to aircraft shortage Ryanair are leasing 4x Boeing 737-400 classics this summer season. I understand all will be based in Dublin so we may get them operating into Leeds/Bradford. So defiantly something to look out for

Re: Ryanair - Girona

After only having used Ryan a couple of times in the past and generally being critical of their methods of business I suppose it is only right and proper that I comment on my positive experience of traveling with them to Girona and back last week. Went out last Thursday on a fairly full flight which got away more or less on time and arrived within 5 minutes of scheduled time. Smooth flight - no complaints about the Girona based crew. The return flight was unfortunately less than half full (79) after arriving into GRO from Maastricht. Uneventful flight without the crew trying to force the sale of scratch cards etc down our throats. Arrived early into Leeds and even though the baggage reclaim info screens directed us to the wrong carousel we were still out of the airport with 20 minutes of landing.

Well done Ryan. Maybe the new caring O'Leary strategy is working. The only annoying thing was that they still play the canned fanfare jingle if they arrive early.

Not necessary MOL! It is just annoying.

It reminds me of the time I flew to Dublin a couple of years ago. We landed 5 mins earlier and they played the jingle. We had to wait 15 mins for an aircraft to clear the allocated stand, therefore we were 10 mins late. When I mentioned this to the steward he just laughed.

Good news as Ryanair have just added even more flights from Leeds/Bradford this summer season. Well for July and August it would seem..

Faro = Increases from 5x weekly to daily with extra flights added on Tuesday and Saturdays.
Arrecife = Increases from 3x weekly to 4x weekly with extra Monday flight.
Dublin = Increases from 2x to 3x flights on Sundays with reintroduction of the afternoon FR154/155 service

Mondays (August 4th until 24th)
FR2048 = LBA 12:15 – ACE 16:35 / FR2047 = ACE 07:15 – LBA 11:50
Tuesdays (August 5th until 25th)

I an a big fan of Ryanair and biased I probably am, but it does seem that Ryanair can see the potential In LBA by investing in extra flights.

No, frankly.

If they saw the potential in LBA they would not have used LBA as a weapon in their battle with Manchester, then pulled the plug on a number of routes this year during massive expansion at the aforementioned airport - a number of flights, might I add, that were operated by non based a/c which is what LBA ACTUALLY needs. There is only one thing they are interested in and LBA only play a minor part in that. Had Manchester played ball with them in the first place, Ryanair wouldn't even have come to LBA.

That said, I like Ryanair in general and their updated website is magnificent, even if there is now an additional "hidden" charge due to the change in their seat allocation policy. Very, very cheeky.
