I see the local press have got wind of British Airways doing crew training at LBA with Boeing 787 dreamliner. Note it also quotes that LBA have an agreement for up to x8 visits of the aircraft.

British Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner takes to Yorkshire skies

145503408.jpg

Aircraft enthusiasts in Yorkshire have the chance for a close up look at British Airways’ most technologically advanced aircraft, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, this week as it makes several low level passes over the runway at Leeds Bradford Airport.

British Airways has been working closely with Leeds Bradford Airport to enable an eight-day pilot training exercise to take place, which involves the aircraft flying down to just 200 feet above the main runway.

Although the 787 won’t land, British Airways’ customers from Yorkshire can still fly on it by connecting from Leeds Bradford via Heathrow to Toronto, New York, Newark, Austin in Texas, Hyderabad, Chengdu, Philadelphia and Calgary, and from next month to Chennai in India.

British Airways has ordered 42 787s, which will arrive over the next few years. There are currently eight in service.

Dave Sproat, British Airways’ assistant flight training manager 787s, who is on the training flights over Yorkshire, said: “We were extremely grateful for the opportunity to do some instrument approaches to Leeds Bradford Airport as part of our new Boeing 787 training programme. Our flight crews are trained to handle a wide variety of potential problems and need to practice and rehearse procedures to ensure they are ready to handle any situation.”

Tony Hallwood, aviation development director at Leeds Bradford Airport, added: “Leeds Bradford International Airport welcomes the arrival of British Airways’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner in the skies above Yorkshire. Many of our passengers are taking advantage of flying on this technologically advanced aircraft when they connect onto British Airways’ long haul services to USA, Canada, India and China from Heathrow. The opportunity to see this new aircraft flying at 200 feet above LBA’s runway will be an amazing sight for enthusiasts and travellers alike.”

The 787 offers huge benefits – including a whisper-quiet cabin pressurised 2,000ft lower than other aircraft (6,000ft), allowing customers to arrive at their destination feeling more refreshed and less jet-lagged.

Its smooth ride technology also provides extra comfort during any turbulence. Bespoke mood lighting in every cabin can be set to reflect the time of day, helping to lull travellers to sleep at night and to wake them gently in the morning.

Customers can also enjoy the largest windows of any commercial aircraft, offering views of the horizon from every seat, or relax watching British Airways’ new in-flight entertainment system, which features more than 1,600 hours of programming.

The 787 is also extremely fuel-efficient – burning 20 per cent less fuel than the aircraft it replaces.

I do quite like the statement:

"Our flight crews are trained to handle a wide variety of potential problems and need to practice and rehearse procedures to ensure they are ready to handle any situation"

Approaching runway 14 at LBA is perfect training.

Anyone got any idea of the likely timings tomorrow? Would have been typical if they had tried this morning in that pea soup!!

Hi all

787 G-ZBJH is operating LHR-NCL tomorrow leaving LHR in the morning circa 8am

Going on the other days rotations, they landed NCL and then in fairly rapid order did 2 x NCL-NCL rotations that did an overshoot at EDI and then the final NCL-LHR sector that 'called' at LBA at 1345ish for its low approach and go around.

I shd have more detail tomorrow but expecting more of the same won't be far out.

Furthermore I believe that at least one of the NCL-NCL's was planned to go via LBA and not EDI the other day but ultimately didn't so it may make more than one visit tomorrow.

You'll be able to follow on FlightRadar as per the other day.

Weather looks favourable also I see.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
