That boby I remember well - used to come up the spiral and chat to us spotters about planes and just make sure no one was parked on yellow lines or near the entrance doors.
I remember rushing down from school when we had bad fog, standing on the spiral with the regulars and hearing stuff land but not being able to see it - so we couldn't cop it (dam) sometimes the fog would lift for a moment and reveal the short runway littered with diverts.

Happy happy days

Put this here folks -

Anyone remember Billesley common Airshow August 1976, and the Canon Hill shows with RAF Static exhibits - Jaguar etc and the Red Devils ?

Great shots of good memories from the aviation center, spent a fair bit of time up there and the shop buying stuff including the movements sheet done by a certain mr Myatt.

Maglev - As a kid going on this was often better than the actual holiday itself.

It still is....my little cousin demands to be dropped off at the train station when they go home so she can go on it!

I remember fearing it the first time I went on it - I thought it was an actual train! I still remember standing by the window in the main terminal, even though it was 'only' 7 years ago now. Even though there were spots I didn't mind so much.

It's not MAGLEV (Magnetic Levitation) anymore, it just uses wheels and a track now. It used to be a little weird when it was MAGLEV, as you would feel the carriage rise several inches before setting off.

Can anyone tell me if American Trans Air ever flew DC10s into Birmingham? I can recall seeing what I thought was an L1011 but not sure after all this time.

I don't think AMT did fly DC10s into BHX.
The TriStars visited on numerous occasions operating mainly charters for various agencies including Government/Military.
They also leased their B727s to various European airlines over many years and were semi-regular visitors to BHX in that period of time.
Happy days.

Thanks. I was kind of hoping they did fly DC10s into Birmingham because it would have given me the excuse to buy a model currently on eBay!

Any excuse Mr Wolfheze.
Actually thinking about it,I think Gemini Jets did do a model of an AMT TriStar in the very jazzy latter livery.Personally not a fan of that livery but the model looked really good!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
