Does that crash gate still exist?

You can go back and forth through different years.
What a great site. I remember seeing a Pan AM 707 at Elmdon and was sure i saw a TWA 707 and Worldways DC8 the next day. The first 2 a least very rare at Elmdon. With the passing of time you start to think maybe it wasn't the next day.Lo and behold it was the 4th and 5th August 1973.Thank you.
Now where did i leave my keys?

It is a great site. One thing though, it makes me realise how many things I missed :(

It was the same for everybody. You would spend days there in the holidays.
Unfortunately when you were away on holiday all the rare visitors decided to to come at once and boy didn't
everyone enjoy telling you what you missed.

Also bunked off school a few times during the winter :cigar:.
I think I might have told the story before concerning one of the biggest anti climaxes when my mate passed me in the school corridor and said a Transavia 737 had just flown by on the 33 Approach. The school was heart of england in balsall common just east of the approach where aircraft were at around 1500ft so identification was quite easy. Anyway this was late afternoon and anticipating a good few diversions once home we quickly changed and hopped on the bus.
On arrival sure enough the 737 was there, parked on the apron close to the A45.
Once up in the viewing lounge we turned on our radios and waited, and waited, and waited. Absolutely nothing else of any interest arrived. Just the usual one elevens and viscounts. I think now the transavia was probably operating a one off charter and was clearly staying overnight as the intake covers had already been fitted. Still it was a decent 'cop' to be underlined in the book.
We used to occasionally talk to another couple of lads at the airport where we were quite often ribbed about 'fudging' entries in the book. So if anyone on here used to use that term then you were probably talking to us.

Have you worked you diversion day yet?I have been getting quite worried for you.
I am standing by my assertion that the diversions arrived on the evening of the 28th of December 1979 due to a heavy snowfall in the south east of England with lighter snow reaching the Midlands. We travelled down to Elmdon on the Saturday morning and spent the day trying to get the reg numbers. Not sure if I will ever be proved right or wrong on this one.

There was a regular spotter there who was called fudge by the other regulars, I remember a few other names of regulars - Worzel, Tiny etc infact I would have spoken to almost all the regualrs on the spiral stairs from 1978 till the new termianl opened, then it was spotting from the new viewing center there - and of course our mate Mr Myatt who ran the shop in there and was a very kean Blues Fan.

Fudge or fudging was a common term in those days.

I had a colour code for my copies of Civil Aircraft Markings, blue for BHX, green for anywhere else and red for "picture cops" double underlined.

I wish I had kept those old books although I do have a wardrobe of old Flight, Air Pictorials etc.

It's a long shot i know but don't suppose anyone has a photograph of the Condor 727 that diverted into Birmingham on the 10th of November 1978? Also an air france caravelle in i think late January 77?

Me thinks a couple of items are to be added to your collection, don't know how you get away with it.

Not sure if will for much longer!
Should be another Dan Air 727 arriving soon which I intend to attempt to convert to the last red and black livery as worn by G- BDAN at the time of the Tenerife accident in 1980

Hi All.

First post on the forum.

I was a regular spotter as 14, 15, 16 year old from 1974 onwards.
I remember sitting around waiting for something different from a Viscount or 1-11 to come in.
The anticipation for even a Trident divert, then on a misty day hoping you could catch the reg.
Used to catch RAF Brittannias some days.
In summer spotting by the golf course & I think popping across the Cov road for chips.
I still a lot of the CAM books & go to Brum regularly though these days more for photos.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
