This is as I reported after the last Consultative Committee - as the new CEO had advised me that they were in discussions with Flybe in an attempt to get them to reverse their decision to axe the route when the Newquay Government subsidy ended. Looks like they succeeded and it is likely therefore that this will now remain an all year round route. Now we just need them to get the new owners to up their game at LBA with a base and more routes. As the new owners are partly Stobart, who have also recently increased their flights to Dublin, LBA management appear to have a good relationship with them. We can only hope.....

Done what Flybe nearly did - disappeared! Things starting to look a little more positive with this airline grouping. They will be more astute at looking where there is money to be made rather than just operating historic routes. Could just be to LBA's benefit - we shall see

As posted in the Eastern Airways thread, flybe's Leeds/Bradford - Southampton route is to see some changes been a made to the schedule as form September 9th 2019. A 3rd daily rotation is been reinstated Monday to Thursday and all flights will revert to be operated by a LBA based Jetstream 41 aircraft as follows.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays
BE7600 = LBA 06:50 - SOU 08:05 / BE7601 = SOU 08:40 - LBA 09:55
BE7604 = LBA 13:10 - SOU 14:25 / BE7605 = SOU 15:00 - LBA 16:15
BE7606 = LBA 17:10 - SOU 18:25 / BE7607 = SOU 19:00 - LBA 20:15
Fridays
BE7600 = LBA 11:10 - SOU 12:25 / BE7601 = SOU 13:00 - LBA 14:15
BE7606 = LBA 16:10 - SOU 17:25 / BE7607 = SOU 18:00 - LBA 19:15
Sundays
BE7606 = LBA 16:10 - SOU 17:25 / BE7607 = SOU 18:00 - LBA 19:15

The very last line says these are Jet routes only!
Well generally, only a small number of the Newquay to LBA flights have been operated by jet equipment - by the E195 on Fridays last summer for example. The route was axed and is now re-instated with no change of aircraft equipment - still on a Dash 8 as it is now.

LBA have issued a press release regards Flybe franchise operator Eastern Airways increasing flights between Leeds & Southampton.

PRESS RELEASE
Issued: Thursday 18th July 2019

Increased flights to Southampton for Yorkshire Travellers

Eastern Airways is increasing services from Leeds Bradford Airport to Southampton with up to 3 flights a day Monday to Thursday as it offers more choice on its Flybe franchise services.

From 9 September 2019, the UK regional airline will introduce a 1.10pm afternoon service from Leeds Bradford and a 3pm flight from Southampton as part of its weekday offering.

The new afternoon flights increase capacity by a third with up to 15 flights a week in each direction and allow for onward connections on Flybe services. The additional flights on the Leeds Bradford-Southampton route also complement the peak 6.50am and 5.10pm southbound departures to Southampton and northbound 8.40am and 7pm flights to Leeds Bradford

Eastern Airways has been providing flights on the important Leeds Bradford – Southampton business route for over 13 years.

Fares on the route start from £79 one way, including taxes and charges and are bookable at Flybe.com

Roger Hage, Eastern Airways’ General Manager Commercial & Operations, said: “We are offering greater choice and more flexibility for Yorkshire business and leisure travellers on our Leeds Bradford – Southampton service by operating these additional flights on behalf of Flybe. Not only is it key to further enhance the strong trade links between both regions, but we have also expanded onward Flybe connections from Southampton.”

John Cunliffe, Leeds Bradford Airport’s Commercial Director, said: “It is fantastic to see a continued commitment from Eastern Airways to Leeds Bradford, Yorkshire’s Airport with this announcement of additional flights to Southampton. The investment of additional capacity by Eastern on the route re-confirms the economic significance of the Leeds City Region, the largest economy in the UK outside of London and further strengthens the LBA domestic portfolio.”

On board Eastern Airways operated flights, passengers are offered a full range of complimentary drinks and snacks. Regular customers can also benefit from discounted route passes offering savings of up to 40%.

Yorkshire and Humber based Eastern Airways was formed in 1997 and operates a core network of schedule flights serving predominantly the North Sea oil and gas industry. The airline also specialises in providing customer-focused charter services for the oil and gas industry, corporate and sports contracts and ad-hoc charters

FlyBe are to wet lease BAe 146-200, D-AMGL from German based operator WDL Aviation for the month of August.
It will be based at Dusseldorf and operate flights to London City, Manchester, Birmingham & Leeds /Bradford.

I'm surprised that they haven't wet leased from Stobart Air considering they own part of them!

Well there is little chance of seeing it at Leeds. This was the aircraft that flew to Edinburgh instead of Dusseldorf when operating for City Flyer out of London. The chances of them finding our little airport are very slim :)

Done a little further research and noted that WDL Aviation BAe 146-200, D-AMGL that’s to be wet-leased by Flybe during August 2019 will operate the (BE1494/1495) Dusseldorf-Leeds/Bradford service on the following days only.

Mondays = 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th
Thursdays = 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th

All other flights during this period will continue to be operated normally by Flybe’s own Dash 8-Q400 aircraft.

That mirrors what GDS is saying as op on Mon and Thu to LBA. As an aside GDS showing only 3 seats available each way this Friday 2nd and also only 2 available DUS to LBA sun 4th. Albeit these are DH8 op

Last week my wife and I decided to take our 2 grandchildren to NQY at the last minute for 4 days....price from LBA was a staggering £658.00 PER person same dates from MAN was £335.00 per person so obviously booked to fly from MAN....same company, same dates, madness. Only difference is aircraft type, LBA is the Dash and MAN is the E175.
More seats onsale from MAN and it's at least 2 daily. LBA is what? 3 weekly?

So over £1200 even from the cheaper Manchester - think I'd have driven it!! Even if you said £100 each way in fuel its a no-brainer for me

Its a minefield try to understand each airlines baggage policy. I bought a new cabin bag recently and bought it on Jet2 size, will be no good on Ryanair etc, fortunatley I do have one Flybe size.
Have to say I wish airlines were stricter in weighing and measuring cabin luggage, you see people bringing on huge cases which they struggle to lift in to the overhead locker.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
