BHX was SNOCLO in the early hours, opened again at around 06:25. It's stopped snowing now and things seem to be operating with only slight delays, EMA looks to be closed though FR9651 is about to land at Birmingham.

Like many airports BHX had a couple of diverts from Dublin last night a couple of Aer Lingus A320's were there this morning. As a result of that todays EI276/7 DUB-BHX-DUB will be operated by Europe Airpost B733 EI-STA.

Some big delays today. ZB439 from Fuerteventura just arrived 18 hours late, another Monarch ZB963 from Barcelona is running 12 hours late and Thomas Cook TCX 4027 from Enfidha is running 9 1/2 hours late.

Not sure what the issue is with Monarch, but TCX having quite a few issues over the past 2 days at MAN, so may be affecting BHX flights.

One B767-300 went bang on an Antalya bound flight resulting in a diversion to EMA. An Air Europa A330 has been used as a back up aircraft for that B767 at MAN today.
Also heard a B757 went bang too, so a Livingston A320 at MAN subbing for that one too now.

BHX saw three bizjets divert in from Luton along with an Easyjet A319 from Gatwick and a Thomson 738 and Vueling A320 from Cardiff, I take it these areas had a bit of fog lingering about this morning?

It was fog related, MAN got an Air Canada A330 from LHR and a LTN bound Gulf 5.

The most interesting divert however was a Monarch A321 which diverted from LGW to LHR!

An MD81 SAS503 looks to be diverting in from LHR. FR24 shows it did a couple of circuits over Essex then headed north.

A developing storm is expected to reach the UK later on Sunday. This is expected to run northeastwards, probably across England and Wales during Monday, with very strong winds on its southern and western flanks. [hi-lighty:2pidpxym]There is the potential for gusts of 60-80 mph quite widely and locally over 80 mph, especially on exposed coasts, both in the southwesterly winds ahead of the low centre and west to northwesterly winds behind it.[/hi-lighty:2pidpxym]

20 to 40 mm of rain may fall within 6 to 9 hours, leading to localised flooding, especially where drainage is impeded by wind-blown debris.

This warning will be updated Sunday morning.

It's currently looking like the West Midlands is going to take a direct hit from a major storm heading towards the UK Sunday night into Monday with some severe disruption expected to transport systems.

There's certainly been a bit of disruption around the country today. Saw lots of go arounds this morning with a couple of Flybe's diverting, Germanwings canx one flight and EK39 tried twice but ended up going to Gatwick, it got back to BHX around 15:20. It looks to be a little calmer now but someone captured a couple of go arounds on video, well worth a watch.

Emirates 77W go around.

Brussels Airlines Dash8 go around.

The usual rubbish from passengers...

Passenger Kevon (corr) Miller wrote on his Twitter account: “So after THREE failed attempts at landing in windy Birmingham, had to land at Gatwick. Nice one. FFS!!! #HeadsGone”.

Clearly landing safely is not important to some people.

The Birmingham Mail had a front page picture from the clip with the headline Terror on the Tarmac: Passengers tell of their drama! Below is part of the the website article, well, they are owned by the same group that own The Mirror

Video: Plane misses runway trying to land in high winds at Birmingham Airport

Terrifying footage shows an Emirates plane almost landing sideways in high winds at Birmingham Airport before the pilot takes off again

This is the frightening moment an aircraft almost landed sideways in high winds at Birmingham Airport before the pilot was forced to take off again.

Onlookers watched in horror as it approached the runway almost at a right angle before the pilot took emergency action.

No wonder so many people hold the gutter press in such contempt.

Hasn't the newspaper got an aviation correspondent who could have told them this was a perfectly normal strong cross wind approach? Then again, that wouldn't have enabled them to write such mind-numbing, sensationalist claptrap.

In one of the other reports a passenger said he thought that pilot was half asleep - that's one of the negatives of letting uninformed passengers watch an approach through the onboard cameras as Emirates do - and only turned the aircraft from right angles to the runway at the last minute. At least he admits he's an infrequent flyer.

I suppose if the pilot had explained beforehand what he intended doing and why that would have led to complaints from other passengers that he was frightening them, although I doubt that the flight crew had the time to explain things as they were clearly fully occupied.

Totally agree.

Here's a cracking clip of a Thomson 763 that managed to get in OK.

As with other airports lots of delays this morning, at the moment they look to be around 2-3 hours, so far only KL 1422 canx.

We had several diverts in this morning, a few Ryanair's came from Stansted, due to an incident I believe, there was also a Lufthansa A320 from Heathrow and two Swiss RJ100's from London City.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
