Are there any freight or mail services operating out of LBA?

LBA use to have Data Post flights every evening until the mid 1990's. Gill Airways use to use a Shorts 360 on a Newcastle-Leeds-East Midlands service if i remember correctly. Meanwhile Emerald Aviation use to run a Liverpool-Leeds service with an Avro HS748. Both use to arrive at LBA around 21:00 and be parked up near stand 16/17.
The Royal mail trucks would then arrive to pick up mail and drop off more mail for the outbound legs. Both aircraft use to leave then about 21:50 before the 22:00hrs curfew was imposed.

In the early 2000's, UPS ran a Boeing 727 service through LBA on a weekday evening. The aircraft would arrive inbound from Iceland with a full load of fresh fish and then depart to Cologne-Bonn with a full load of freight. Sometimes the service was operated by Bluebird Cargo B737-400f's if i remember correctly. If I’m also correct I think they used and Air Atlantic, Lockheed Electra for the last couple of weeks of its operation.

I also remember we had a TNT Boeing 757 about 3 or 4 years ago and they said they'll never be back with that type of aircraft. As the handling agent at LBA didn’t had the right vehicle for taking the pallets out the aircraft. They used a Forklift truck instead to remove the pallets which delayed the outbound leg by some considerable time

Nowa days PIA are only regular the scheduled fright carrier with there 2 weekly Airbus A310’s from Islamabad. Thomson Airways also carry freight in and outbound to/from the Carribbean on there winter P&O cruise flights to/from Bridgetown on the Boeing 767-300ER.
LBA also see’s ad-hoc freight charters bringing the horses in throughout the year. Ranging anything from TNT's 146's to Air Atlantic Boeing 737-300F's and the occasional Antonov AN-26's or AN-72's.

.............You could be right there!!

None unfortunately. Small amounts of freight are carried on pax flights, majority of cargo is trucked from Manchester and Heathrow under Customs bond.

LBA have never been cargo friendly.

I've noticed an increase in freight carried on Jet2 flights of late. Namely fish products being transported to the continent.

Does KLM carry any mail / freight to LBA? There was an article in the latest Holland Herald (I do sometimes read the in-flight mag) about the cargo they carry and suggesting it was across the entire network. I've also read somewhere (I suspect here) that cargo/mail is one of the things that makes the CityHopper network work.

I was once on a KLM flight waiting to depart from AMS and there was a delay. I was sitting by the window at the front and I saw quite a few bags being off loaded.I was shocked when I saw my suitcase amongst them.I was furious. I asked the Cabin Manager what was happening. She went to ask the captain. He told her they needed more space for some freight. I made a big fuss and told her in that case I wanted to get off and catch another flight.I had a long journey by road to follow so little chance to get the bag back before my return to the UK. After quite a long wait she came back and asked for my ticket stub. My case was put back on. Many others were not aware that their bags were being left behind, about 20 in all.
I suppose the logic was, the passengers had already paid for their tickets but the freight was extra revenue.I wonder just how common this is. Especially when the bags are not loaded in the first place nobody would know as they would be typical missing bags to arrive on another flight which used to happen frequently.About 15 times for me over the years although only one suitcase lost forever which is pretty bad because you cannot remember all the items that were in there.

This seems very unusual. Normally freight is off-loaded in favour of passenger baggage. It must have been a very special shipment.

For your info mail normally take precedence over freight, so its right at the bottom of the priority list.

Well I can assure you it happened. The Cabin Manager gave me some advice with a twinkle in her eye, next time don't sit by the window.

I am, in the freight business, and am often frustrated when our freight is off-loaded due to 'bags'.

Having said that I don't doubt what you are saying.

Depends what it was. Mail gets priority over passenger baggage it goes:

Mail
Perishable
Passengers
Passenger baggage
Normal goods

No matter how heavy an aircraft is mail has to go first even if it means taking all the passengers and baggage off the flight although that is unlikely to happen.

Perishable such as fruit and veg need to go next as these have a expiry date on them.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
