I've just been imformed that Scottish based regional operator Loganair (Fybe.com) has by all acounts today applied for slots for a 3x daily Glasgow-Leeds/Bradford operation. Flights will be operated by Saab 340 aircraft commenceing from March 28th.

Well spotted LBAspotter. Bigman will be delighted with the news. He's been banging on about the need for loganair to come in and operate Glasgow on behalf of Flybe. Leeds has needed a more affordable option of getting to Glasgow for years. I am not sure where this will leave British Midland bmi but it is still very much welcomed news all the same.

Loganair have applied and been granted peak time slots at both Edinburgh and Glasgow for an Lba route for the last 3 years so nothing new in that respect, anticipating a withdrawal by the incumbent operator which has still to occur. No indicaton that bmir are to withdraw from the route just yet, but the withdrawal of the bmi GLA LHR route may put pressure on the loss making one aircraft Bmir operation at Glasgow which shared some operational overheads with bmi. Perhaps to wait and see rather than jumping to conclusions just yet.

What empire has said is absolutely correct, Loganair, just having a plan in place for the immediate take over, should BMIR withdraw from the route. What I can say though, is the arr/dep slots at Glasgow are timed to connect ideally with all the other Highlands & Islands flights on their network, so making making these connections from there a possibility once again.

If loganair do come to LBA i guess it i'll make getting to Glasgow alot cheaper under flybe fares compared to the fares bmi currently charge.

I dont think bmi would give up the Edinburgh route that easy. I think bmi will be on that for a long while yet.

To be honest part of me wishes they would come in and operate alongside British Midland International anyway. The availability of connections into the Islands is a good enough reason on it's own.

They did indeed. With Shorts 360's if I remember correctly between 1990-1994. The route was then handed over to Manx Airlines in 1994 until they joined up as A British Airways Franchise partner.

After that the route was then handed over British Midland who used BAe ATP's of all things and then onto the Saab 340's (The same one's Loganair us now) The route was then handed over the current Embrear 135/145 regional jets.

How ironic is it that Loganair have nearly rebuilt to where they were back in those days off 1990!

Loganair also used to use an ATP from LBA on a charter service down to Jersey at weekends (my Mum & Dad both flew on it!).

I thought I'd bump this thread seen as though flights to Glasgow with Loganair would 'appear' imminent if the LBA arrival and departure boards are anything to go by.

We all know that Loganair are to operate the Leeds - Glasgow route with Saab 340's starting from next Tuesday May 8th.

But for ATC purposes will they use there own flight code LOG and the "Logan" call-sign or with it been a franchise service for flybe will they use the BEE code and "Jersey" call-sign???

Perhaps there is a clue in the fact that LOG flight numbers persistently kept appearing on the LBA arrivals not long ago, almost as if they are already programmed in and have been for some time too. There was also an extra flight in there - 3 per day - something the airline have said could happen if the demand increases. I am not sure whether or not using the LOG flight codes will make any difference - as long as the flights are marketed by Flybe who obviously attract a lot more attention amongst passengers. GLA is a route that we need to do well - I hope the links to the Scottish Islands and Highlands do OK too.

I was slightly surprised and disappointed to see that this mornings inaugural flight to GLA was operated by an unmarked Saab - either that or the markings were well faded - as from where I was viewing it, the aircraft appeared to all white. I would have thought for their first appearance they would have made sure that their brand was there for all to see?

The scheduled remain's unchanged operating 2x daily Monday to Friday and 1x Sunday evening rotation using the Saab 340's

I don't imagine loads are that healthy, it seems way over-priced at £140 - £170 return. I was looking at going up there for a day to go and see the Falkirk Wheel, but based on those prices, I won't bother.

To drive from Leeds to Falkirk you're looking at £86.02 return for petrol according to Google maps so I don't think between £140 and £170 is that bad.

To be honest I could do it on the train for a lot less (£53) if I choose my tickets correctly. I would still have enough time to get to Falkirk and back too.

I've also noticed that the FlyBe flights from Manchester to Glasgow are quite a lot cheaper than LBA, they seem around £110.

I thought that the Sunday services were always scheduled to start from September 2nd. I seem to recall that was in the original press release?
