And raging Brian Donohoe says list MSP Chic Brodie “needs to start learning about things he doesn’t understand”.
The pair have come to verbal blows over the future of Prestwick Airport, which continues to struggle as it looks for a new buyer.
Mr Donohoe has warned that a lack of investment from current owners Infratil, who are trying to sell the airport, is putting its very future at risk.

Infratil have confirmed they have had no offers for our airport which is a pity as we have the finest airfield in Scotland runway/weather etc they value it now around 14m having paid 33m :s_sad

It doesn't help when the only major airline player at the airport is Ryanair. We all know how fickle Ryanair is with business and they don't think twice about upping sticks and moving to alternative airports when they don't get their own way. This will inadvertently affect the going price of the airport. Prestwick isn't the only airport that has fallen fowl to this problem. Not too long ago Newcastle council admitted it's share in Newcastle airport was worth significantly less since the original valuing during the economic 'high'. The advent of low cost travel has significantly reduced the amount of revenue airport make from airlines with airports relying on passenger volumes to generate a return through concessions and parking charges. Newcastle airport has since taken steps to increase the value of the airport by increasing the number of airlines which makes investing in airport infrastructure a more inviting proposition.

Prestwick needs help to stop it falling on aviation’s scrapheap.

That’s the view of Ayrshire politicians who’ve joined forces to call on vital investment at the site.
The airport, which has plummeted in value, is now available for a cut-price £10.5 million.

Owners Infratil have confessed interest has been minimal since the airport went on the market in March.
Now they desperately need a new investor to take the property off their hands.

Central Ayrshire MP, Brian Donohoe, urged: “Prestwick needs a big player to come in – someone who is experienced in the running of airports.

PIK has had a remarkable winter after several years of serious decline in passenger numbers.

November 's passenger figures were up 25.5%, Dec up 32.8%, Jan up 31.1%, Feb up 16.3% and March up 17.5%.

The rolling 12-month figure at the end of March was 1,096,548 compared with 1,041,929 at the end of October, a rise of just over 5%.

Atms have been up but not to the same percentage degree as the passenger number rises.

Not sure to be honest and we didnt have a lot of diversions during winter to add to them,FR have increased slightly on recent years and their flights must be busy

The upturn continues numbers for May up 14% on last year hopefully it goes on into the peak season with FR adding extra flights to Malaga/Faro and Palma :drinks:

I watched the aircraft make the unusual stop after an alert to my phone on FR24. Unfortunately it doesn't tell you what the "emergency" actually is but the BBC is now reporting it. It's only a week or so since a similar incident happened on a Manchester bound Pakistan International Airlines aircraft which was escorted by RAF aircraft to London Stansted.

An Egyptair plane from Cairo to New York has landed at Glasgow Prestwick Airport after being diverted.

BBC producer Nada Tawfik, a passenger on board, said she saw a note with the words "I'll set this plane on fire" and a seat number.

The Boeing 777 - which was travelling to JFK International Airport - touched down in Ayrshire at around 14:30 BST.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that RAF Typhoon aircraft were called following an "incident on board".

An eyewitness told the BBC he saw the two fighter jets escort the plane into the airport.

I watched it on FR24 also the rapid descent was incredible it was something like 4000feet per minute
