lets hope that pilot who crashed his plane in to the ils is no longer flying after the damage he did. We dont wont this to happen again!!

How ridiculous. It was his first solo flight. Experienced captains all world-over cause expensive mistakes day in day out. Give the poor lad a chance.

Can't agree more, what an absolutley ridiculous post.

We now have an erect glide slope aerial for runway 14. We just need it calibrating now and we are up and running.

Not quite a300boy. The aerial is not even connected to the kit yet. All being well flight cal is due Tuesday. After that we need 24hours "burn in". Once SRG are happy it should go CAT1 after that.
Cheers

I have to ask the question here.. is the new ILS any better than what we had, ie any technological advancement??

I was hoping the glide slope would be operational this evening as we might need it later with southerly winds and bad weather forecast after 2200 hours. Fingers crossed we do not have problems.

Afraid not, it needed all the figures taking post flight check. Once TELS are happy with the readings the glide path requires a 24 hour burn in period before it is returned to service:)

Trust me, we can't wait for the GP back either!

To repeat my earlier question, do we know if the new ILS is any more capable that the old one?

I understand a 3.3 degree glideslope maybe achievable and it maybe possible to achieve cat 2 but then there's the associated runway lighting to move too. So it's not as simple as just upgrading the glideslope equipment.

Correct. Upgrading to CAT II would be a big project, which would take a lot longer than replacing the glidepath aerial has taken.

Couldn't the terrain have been profiled and the new G/S installed to perhaps 3.2 degrees meaning that all that was then required for Cat 2/3 wld have been a lighting system?

Then a concerted effort to find the funding for the light system cld have commenced.

I personally was dismayed to learn that the new G/S was going to be set at 3.5 degrees.

So much good work by so many people attracting these airlines is undone when a/c divert.

I have previously posted that the new antenna is an upgrade over the old one, being of a different material and although nothing is changing now, it was stated that the new kit will make it easier to make changes at a later date. I can't give you any details as I don't have any - only an assurance from someone who knows, that the kit installed is better than what it replaced and will prove advantageous in the future.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
