Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

That would be nice. Mushy peas could be hazardous for passengers on longer flights though. Having said that I can recommend the Yates's gourmet chips.

A Covent Garden soup kiosk would be nice too.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Perhaps a man behind a counter with a phone and supply of salt and vinegar, who can phone through chippy orders to Murgatroyds. They could have the fish and chips delivered in a box within 10 minutes and damned good they are too! I can only imagine the mess though with boxes all over the place and the terminal wouldn't smell too good either.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I know little about retail and absolutely nothing about airport retail so please forgive me for asking what might seem like a daft question to those of you in the know.

The question came to me after watching a recent episode of Inside Gatwick on tv and passing through LBA on my way to Palma one early morning in September. As usual there wasn't anywhere to sit down and neither were the retail units, except for the tea and coffee brigade, doing any business.

My question relates to the basis on which the retail units pay LBA for their floor space. Gatwick, according to the programme, don't charge their tenants a rent but instead take a percentage of their sales income. They also, in order to maximise their revenues, and keep the retailers on their toes, employ staff to monitor their retail units, footfall, queues etc, and they are very proactive with their retailers when they see things they figure should be improved. They also talk to customers regarding their experiences, likes and dislikes and communicate their findings to the retailers.

The question, eventually, is what happens at LBA? How do they rent their retail space? Do they gee their retailers up to provide a more memorable experience for their customers? Is this aspect of customers service (or not as the case may be) ever discussed at the Consultative meetings? Anyone any thoughts or ideas?

Just like LGW, we pay a certian % of every pound that we turn over. So for example 0.09p for every £1 entering the till. I don't know the exact figures.

As for the other's i'm not too sure.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I finally tried out the fodder from the AM Express last Saturday. Spot on I have to say. Seekh kebabs were lovely as was the chicken tikka massala and pilau rice. They were doing a bomb there with all the punters flying off on the Hadj flight.

I did hear that the 80th anniversary display is open to the public until the end of the year, so presumably the land side cafe is remaining open for the foreseeable future...unless anyone knows otherwise.

I knew it wouldn't take long for you to try out the latest curry house out at the airport Bigman. Glad you liked it, But do you recommend it?
It will have been busy on Saturday seen we had the hajj charter to Jeddah along with the scheduled Islamabad service. I wonder if they have been opened up extra hours this week on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday for there respective Hajj charters?

PS.
I hear the airport management made an executive Decision to keep the first floor landside area open just for you until the new year big-man. But what you going do when they do eventually close it down for ever?

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I too was surprised that AM express did not open up on Sunday. Interesting how they allocated the upstairs loo's as ritual washing facilities etc and also laid on a special prayer room. Very well organised.

Once the cafe goes (apart from the corner with the vending machine that they are keeping open especially for me and Peter), I will be over at the South side cafe away from the Sunday afternoon lunatics that always seem to appear, screaming kids and also views blocked by hundreds of inbound punters hacked off at having to wait an hour to get through immigration.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

A new car hire desk is being constructed near International arrivals for a new company.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Further to my last post it's Enterprise car rentals that has opened it's new branch at LBA.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

It's good to see a wider variety of business' entering LBA.

Do we know if the current 'stream' of hire car desks are to be moved during the re-furb or are they staying where they are?

New food options at Leeds Bradford Airport

Travel food company SSP is to introduce two new outlets at Leeds Bradford Airport - a new bar called The Saltaire and the first Camden Food Co. restaurant at a UK airport, the Moodie Report says.

The Saltaire bar is named after the nearby town of Saltaire - a world heritage site, famous for its architecture, food and award-winning beers. Designed to celebrate the best of the region, the bar will serve cask-conditioned ales from the Saltaire Brewery and two North Yorkshire breweries, Theakston and Black Sheep. It will also offer an extensive wine list and a range of spirits. Wine experts and highly trained baristas will be on hand to help customers make their choices. The local theme is continued on the food menu which features a range of traditional favourites, balanced with modern flavours from around the world.

Camden Food Co. will also offer a taste of Yorkshire. Items on the menu include Wensleydale cheese and ham baguette, Wensleydale cheese sandwich, and Yorkshire Crisps, made with locally grown potatoes and winner of a prestigious Caterer and Hotelkeeper Magazine Award for Excellence. The dessert offer will include rhubarb crumble made with plants from the fabled ‘Rhubarb Triangle’, an area between Rothwell, Morley and Wakefield that has European protected status.

The two new outlets are part of an £11 million investment programme to improve facilities at the airport, and the opening of the concepts will create 20 new jobs at the airport.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

With all the new retail areas taking shape at the airport what other retail units do people think would work at the airport? I would like to see an airport shop selling local produce. Not necessarily one brand but many different local brands. Imagine a shop selling Bottled beers such as Saltaire Ale & Leeds Pale Ale. Wensleydale Cheese & Cakes from Betty's, Pontefract Cakes & books from local writers etc. I mean there must be hundreds of locally sourced produce that would sell really well at the airport.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Starbucks/Costa would work very well within the airport, as alot of pax will have outside cards (ie costa card) and collect points. I bet both would work well landside aswell, with Jet2 HQ staff and LBIA office staff using it a hell of a lot.

Marks & Spencers Simply Food within airside would work well, give WHSmith a very big run for it's money. They'd suddenly have to clean the products & the shop it's self went in their today and i was disgusted by the amount of dust. EW. Or tesco express i bet either would blow WHSMith out of the water. Superdrug will be a very big success and about time too.

Comet would work well during summer however i'm not to sure with regards to Winter period unless LBA become busier over the winter period.

Proper retail outfits. Sunglasses shops? Expert book shops (waterstones)? Ralph Lauren? Something with clothes? Maybe not maybe so.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I too think that much you have described Nicholas1992, would work well, especially a Coffee Hut/Cafe...

I know many people who just want to sit down somewhere, not a restaurant or bar, just a cafe where you can sit with your book or kindle and wait for your aircraft with nothing more than a cuppa and maybe a croissant...

I don't think a Comet would work too well, as generally people pre-purchase "heavy" electronics before they set off, e.g. an iPod and make sure all their music and videos are synced onto their iPod before they even get to the airport... unless you took your Laptop with you of course!

A designer outlet.. hmmm, probably not at the moment for LBA. I would definitely think it would work when the terminal extension is built in the future, with a lot more passengers passing through the airport, but maybe not at the present time...

The idea of bringing something new to the airport, something similar to what Aviador has suggested I think would bode well within the airport, especially with outbound, Yorkshire through and through passengers..! I can definitely see many passengers even trying for the first time some Leeds Pale Ale in a bar, or even having a 'Yorkshire Store' unit, with typical Yorkshire merchandise for the tourists benefit as well!
I can't see a stand-alone Betty's unit, but if someone was willing to create something like a 'Yorkshire Store' with everything typical to Yorkshire in one place then it could be a real hit!

Calling Yorkshire’s finest sandwich aficionados – are you particularly picky about the fillings found in your beloved butty? Do you think you have what it takes to create the goodfiller of all sarnies? Well now’s your chance, as the new Camden Food Co. concession opening at Leeds Bradford International airport next month, is asking locals to create their own sandwich to be in with the chance of winning £100 of high street vouchers. The winning entry will also be sold at the outlet throughout the summer season.

The Camden Food Co. outlet, which has seating for approx. 160 people, will open at Leeds Bradford Airport on Monday 14th May and prides itself on providing food with an emphasis on Yorkshire produce.

Russell Sibley, Operations Manager at Camden Food Co at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “Our aim with the Camden Food Co. is to offer choices that are ideally suited to the needs of the customer at Leeds Bradford Airport. We want the outlet to offer something of the unique culinary heritage of the area and so by launching this unique competition we want customers to share their must-have ingredients, just the way they like them, with the rest of Yorkshire.”

Russell added: “The competition is open to men, women and children of all ages and we are really excited to let our customers’ taste buds do the talking. The winning sandwich will be made and sold at the airport throughout the summer season. There is also £100 worth of high street vouchers up for grabs.”

A list of core ingredients suggested by Camden Food Co. to give customers inspiration has been provided. This includes ham, chicken, tuna, egg, cheddar cheese, mozzarella, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, avocado, pesto, BBQ sauce. The sandwich can be made on either bread or a Panini.

The competition closes on Monday 7th May and all entries should be sent to [email protected]. Entrants to include details of their winning sandwich plus the ingredients chosen and any specific tips for making the sandwich in the perfect way, as well as their name, contact number and postal address.

Entries will then be judged by a panel of sandwich experts including representatives from Leeds Bradford International Airport and SSP, the food travel operators which runs the Camden Food Co. brand.

The winner should be available on Monday 21st May as they will be invited to the Camden Food Co. at Leeds Bradford Airport to see their sandwich in production.

Suprised no one picked up on this, but it was very well hidden amongst the airports development/thomson holidays & monarch airlines expansion. Could lead to some very imaginative ideas. Guessing the sandwhich has to contain at least "one of the core" ingredients.

note the opening the date its given. :D

Relevant none the less. Nice to see LBIA/SSP including the pax for ideas on what they'd like to see on the menu at their local airport. Also has the open date for the new lounge, which we've speculating over the last few weeks as and when its going to be.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

The lounge is still very much a building site, i dont see it opening anytime this month.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Flying out from LBA week Friday, can anyone tell me if any of the retail outlets offer a "meal deal"?
Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I think Burger King are offering free drink and fries with any burger. It will still cost you the best part of a fiver for most burgers.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
