Yes thanks very much Luke, but I have been notified that several aircraft have been diverted, and Im not sure what for. As I said there seemed to be a 5 to 10 minute interval leading up to 2115pm, where nothing took off or landed with aircraft still circling. The Jet2 from Funchal has diverted to Blackpool I think, as well as a Thomas Cook 757, not sure where from, but the airport radar seem to be making aircraft circle for no reason. :/

Hi Tom,

There was a large storm front that suddenly decended on the airport. Most managed to make it in, with a few delays, but, as you say, one or 2 did actually divert.

The one that surprised me was Jet2 opting from BLK over Leeds, dont think Ive ever seen that happen before.

Thanks a lot WorldRep, that explains it.
From what I saw on radar it did look like something was happening around the airfield.

Regards,
Tom.

Seems to be quite a few flights to TLV for the passover the past few days.

Ive seen at least 2 extra Jet2 flights, 2 Thomas cook flights and a Thomson flight. Whilst I see this is only a one off yearly demand, I wonder why EL AL still dont serve MAN-TLV, both TOM and Jet2 have proven the market is there!

The airline has it's own security team and to be honest Manchester airport is difficult to secure in the way that EL AL like to do things.

I dont think EL AL had any issues last time they operated here, and constantly say they do want to serve MAN eventually (plenty of news sources in good old google).

They could use southern gates on C pier at MAN, as they are generally hidden from the public viewing points, can only just see the tail from the Multi storey car park (especially on the B737 which would most likely be used), and its easy to corden off the gates, especially if the use off peak times.

However, incidents like today wont help promote a 'secure' airport. Etihad B773 had to re-enter the hold after some guys entered the active after breaking through a fence, then deciding to 'moon' taxiing aircraft. nice :reallyshocked:

[textarea]Manchester Airport buys new hybrid buses

Leeds bus manufacturer Optare has won a contract to supply Manchester Airport with six Versa hybrid buses. The contract is supported by the government's Green Bus Fund and is worth £1.2m.

Jim Sumner, chief executive of Optare, said: ‘We are very pleased to be bringing our hybrid technology to Manchester Airport. Their operation at one of the UK's most important international gateways will showcase Optare's environmentally-friendly hybrid buses to the millions of people passing through the airport to and from the over 200 destinations it serves worldwide.’

It is not clear from the press release whether the buses will be used airside to transfer passengers between the terminal and planes, or landside to transfer passengers to and from airport car parks.

Did something happen at MAN this afternoon around 1440-1450PM??
The Jet2 LS864 flight from Murcia G-LSAG had a missed approach whilst on finals and then the easyJet flight 1943 flight from Sofia G-EZTN was about to start finals and then 'swerved' the left of Rwy32L and did a circuit. Also, the KLM flight 1087 flight from Amsterdam was also about to head into MAN from the Huddersfield area and then went 'up' to Halifax and did a complete 180degree turn, before heading into MAN.
I do know there were aircraft about to depart ie. Thomson 7AJ to Heraklion G-OBYH, Jet2 897 to Budapest G-GDFC, Jet2 917Q to Tenerfie South G-LSAM and Thomas Cook 71CX/MT2026 G-DAJC flight to Paphos, were all waiting to depart, but to divert 3 aircraft away from their initial/final approach, to me, seems like there is something wrong.
Does anyone have any information on this?

I was watching FlightRadar and saw the Jet2, easyJet and KLM all coming into MAN. The Jet2 757 flew over the airfield, at the lowest, I think it was 2500ft and the followed the relevant course round towards LPL and back to MAN. the easyJet A320 was on-course for the runway but decided to circle just left of Rwy32L and then arrive and the KLM went, effectively 'up' towards BLK and then back to MAN.
The said aircraft that departed, departed whilst these three aircraft starting their approach, so I presume they were all waiting to depart whilst this was going on.
My first thought was a flock of birds, but then why would the departing flights, be then given clearance to depart?! Another possibility was wind, that the arriving aircraft weren’t prepared for and so the tower could allow the departing flights, to depart in the mean-time.

[textarea]Manchester Airport launch regional APD discount campaign

Manchester Airport has launched a campaign to try to persuade the Government to introduce lower air taxes for flights from regional airports. It is urging passengers to write to the Chancellor George Osborne asking for a regionalised taxation system.

The Chancellor announced a consultation on air passenger duty (APD) in his March Budget and Manchester Airport is asking passengers to respond before the deadline this Friday. It is giving customers pre-written postcards asking the Chancellor to consider a lower level of APD for airports like Manchester, which can be posted in special mail boxes installed in Terminals 1 and 2.

The airport's external affairs director Jonathan Bailey said: ‘This is the last chance for passengers to have their say on the proposed changes that could seriously affect their future holidays and business trips. Many UK travellers are unaware that they pay the highest levels of flight tax in Europe, but they have an opportunity to have their say and make their voice heard to Government.'

‘We are asking our passengers to show their support and help convince the Government that a regionalised tax system could work in the long term and provide a stronger aviation industry for the UK.’

[textarea]Pink Flamingo closed Manchester Airport runway

A pink flamingo forced the closure of a runway at Manchester Airport, the MEN reports. The large bird then caused 'a bizarre airfield drama' by evading capture for almost five hours. Staff at the airport's wildlife control unit called in the police and chased the animal - nicknamed Ringo – with nets. But every time they got close to the bird it flew off, only to return later.

Ringo was first spotted 'strutting down' runway two on Sunday night by airfield staff. They called for back up from police who used night vision cameras to try to locate it – but they could not see it so the runway was given the all-clear, with airfield officials believing it had flown off.

However, it reappeared at 08:00 on Monday morning – again strolling along the second runway. The airport was forced to shut the second runway – because Ringo was a danger to planes. Airport staff tried to scare it off in a 4X4 vehicle, specially designed to keep the airfield bird-free. They set off flares and blasted music to try to move it away from the runway, but their unwelcome visitor refused to go away.

Eventually Ringo flew off at about 12:30. Airfield workers wearing binoculars then had to spend another couple of hours on the look-out to make sure Ringo had not come back.

The origins of the flamingo remain a mystery. The airport contacted every local wildlife sanctuary but none of them reported a missing bird. A spokesman for Manchester Airport told the newspaper that the incident had not grounded any planes but did force the early closure of runway two.

Some good increases there. Why is the Las Vegas increase so high?

I assume the increase is because of the new VS flights twice a week on the 747. It was up 292% in May

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
