I heard today that Thomas Cook Holidays are on the brink of signing a deal with an airline regarding taking a seat allocation on scheduled flights from Leeds-Bradford next summer 2013. But this seat allocation would also shared with another tour operator.

My guess is that this may have something to do with a tie up with either Monarch Airlines and Cosmos Holidays or Jet2 and Jet2holidays. By all al-counts everything will be revealed soon.

I had posted a formal question re TCX for todays Consultative Committee, asking what was going on. LBA clearly didn't feel able to answer. It was stated that they really didn't know what TCX were doing. However, I got the distinct impression it was more a case of that they couldn't say what they knew. Since I asked the question a month ago, they had all that time to find out the answer and it seemed today that both this question and that relating to the terminal extension was 'sensitive'. So I came away with absolutely no enlightenment at all, which is rare, and disappointing. It was a concern also to see TCX's A320 parked up at the far end of the apron this afternoon with all doors closed and apparently going nowhere - never a good sign for an IT charter aircraft.

17:55 CORFU TCX961

Gotta be wrong. Since they don't offer corfu from Leeds.

Don't quote me, but I think this is a Manchester flight operating from Leeds this afternoon as the Leeds aircraft is free after it returns from Las Palmas.

I was on the Thomas Cook website yesterday to see if they had uploaded the LBA flights.
I couldn't put a date in, managed to pick LBA from the airport list but then nothing else. No destination, resort or accomodation
I'm sure that there a lot of people like myself who will not book a Thomas Cook holiday. They are playing into the hands of Thomsons & Jet2 Holidays. :dunno:

Thomas Cook cabin crew are saying the base will close in October but another airline will be operating Thomas Cook holidays next summer. All still here say but so long as people will still be able to book holidays with them, it could be worse. Still no formal confirmation though.

Was looking through Thomas Cook's 2013 holiday brochers & it was the May edition of this years and looking at the flight infomation LBA was still availble so hopefully they or not pulling or maybe trying to find an operator.

I can't see how they will save much by dropping their own base and then chartering someone elses aircraft to base instead, so I still think they will use either Monarch (hence the delay whilst they sort out what they are doing together), or Jet2 (hence the increase in capacity on many of the routes), or a combination of the two. That way they continue to serve almost all the routes but don't have the costs of basing an aicraft at LBA - and it helps ensure that Monarch and Jet2 have larger and fuller aircraft.

Simples!

When I called in Thamas Cooks in Morley the other week, they did say they were booking flights with Jet2 and were pushing for LBA as much as possible.

Was at the Great Yorkshire Show yesterday and happened to walk past the LBA stand and on the stand it said, working closely with: and listed the list of airlines that operate from LBA and the intresting thing is that Thomas Cook was not on the list of who they are working closely with, which is abit odd since EZY was even on there! so this could confirm what we have all been waiting for, the picture is also on LBA's facebook page.

I know it has been hinted at before, but I think that we can expect Thomas Cokk using Jet2/Monarch flights for their customers. With all the announcements we have heard this past few weeks I think that this is the only way that they will offer holidays from LBA.

I checked on Thomas Cook website last night and LBA doesn't even come up on the list of airports for 2013. I had assumed it was on the list but when you tried to book it was blocked, but it simply doesn't feature at all. I still cannot quite get my head around why, out of the 20+ airports they fly from, they would pick LBA to dump (if that is what they did), apart from the fact that they want everyone to treck over the hill to their Manchester base to fill their planes there. If that is their thinking then I fear it would backfire spectacularly given the expansion by Thomson Holidays and arrival of Cosmos, plus of course the continuing expansion of Jet2Holidays. They are handing the Yorkshire market to their competitors on a plate.

Like i have said before, it is beyond me why they are pulling out of the fastest growing airport in the UK and 2013 is looking to fantastic for LBA

Well as far as I can see they have already screwed Bradford by announcing 500 redundancies in the city centre, so why not screw the airport as well!! Interesting that one of their main Greek routes Zakynthos has just been announced by jet2. Coincidence???

Is it not the case that Thomas Cook will still be offering packages from LBA, but will be flying their customers on aircraft operated by either Jet2 or Monarch? If this is the case, does it mean a reduction in passenger numbers, or will they maintain the same? If they maintain the same, then surely the only effect is that we will no longer see a TCX aircraft coming and going?

Good riddance to them. Bring on Thomson.

Business is fickle especially in the airline world. Here today gone tomorrow although I think "good riddance" is a little harsh. Thomas Cook has served us well particularly through the years Thomson left us.

I too think good riddance is a little harsh.

Bring on Thomson.

Has anyone stopped to think that the above is why TCX are pulling LBA?

Jet2 moving on Zante (not just an LBA thing as MAN has also been launched at the exact same time).
Increased Ryanair, Increased Thomson, Increased Monarch. Maybe TCX, in its current form cannot afford to dump yield to create a level playing field with the above.

And be under no illusion, yields WILL be lower now LBA has all this capacity to fill. The same has happened at every UK airport that has more carriers jumping on the same routes, LBA will be no different.

To be honest, now TCX have pulled out, it gives the other flights a fighting chance, as 4 carriers on the same routes was too much for an airport the size of LBA.

Good riddance to what!

Everyone seems to forget It still has not been confirmed or denied that Thomas Cook Holidays have pulled out of LBA, Yes we know the airlines base is been pulled from the end of October, But that dose'nt mean that Thomas Cook Holidays wont be operating from LBA next year.

Who's to say that they might take seats on Jet2 and Monarch routes next year like has already been suggested and possibly still see Thomas Cook's own metal doing w-legs from there other UK bases as well. Or another option maybe they are to operate a full based programme but can't release the holidays for sale due to not been able to source a leased aircraft for the summer?

Come on, Lets just wait and see what happens between now and next summer before everyone rights Thomas Cook off..

But surely there must be a cut off point where even the most optimistic supporter admits that 'something isn't quite right'.....

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
