Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
@White Heather probably because I'm never ever visited any of the Leeds. When I did I thought the Grease Production was the biggest waste of money I've ever spent. I've always gone to Bradford, they attract the west end shows, and the Panto there is just another scale. Maybe I need to give them a chance again ....

Airport it is...
The airport Terminal decision is also turning into a decent pantomime. Oh yes it is!

Funnily enough, my route (6) is pretty good. Loads of buses, nearly all new, so no complaints.
I don’t use that one. I use mainly the 12/13 and sometimes the 7. The problem is there always late or don’t show up for ages or when they do about 4 of them show up all together and if you miss these then it’s going to be a while for the next one.

Ive seen recently they are struggling with a shortage of drivers which I understand but this has been going on for years.

LBA 4EVER mentioned Bradford and Leeds being called Greater Leeds , I can not agree just the same as calling them Greater Bradford , they are both great Yorkshire cities.
Mention of a through station for Bradford is nothing new. In the early 1920’s the council at the time had a plan drawn up as how Bradford city centre should look which included a through railway station.

Except Bradford sort of lost its way a little as Leeds grew expotentially. As Bradford is considerably smaller than Leeds by population, Greater Bradford was never going to work, but as I posted earlier, encompassing cities in their own right within a Greater Leeds would not have gone down well. However, lumping the Burys, Oldham's, Boltons, Altrinchams and Salford under Greater Manchester has, ultimately, led to a transformation of the region that simply hasn't happened in West Yorkshire. So perhaps a Greater Leeds might not have been popular in the other cities, but it just might have been more productive!

Bradford absolutely shot itself in the foot a few years ago. The city centre was damn near flattened ahead of construction so why on earth did they not take the opportunity to build a brand transport interchange right in the middle of the city centre when they had the chance. There should have been a new bus station at ground level with a new 6 track railway station above it with connecting viaducts South to the to the current Interchange station and North past Forster Square and out towards Frizinghall. Both existing stations could then have been closed.

Bradford cc dare i say this is bloody awful, apart from the area where the alhambra is which is acceptable the rest of the cc has literally shut down and is derelict, bradford and its cc once was I've been told a great place to live!
Like WH mentions calling stockport, bury and all the satellite towns around Manchester (which aint really manchester) greater manchester has really made the place bigger and more well known nationally and internationally, i think we need similar here.

as someone who doesn’t live in either Leeds or Bradford I find some of the debate interesting. I work in Bradford and it is like any other large city IMO , some pockets of affluence, a lot of deprivation, some lovely old buildings, some ok new public realm as well, but some of the most hideous examples of brutalist architecture such as the Kirkgate. My partner is from Leeds and as an outsider when visiting family, I find it a bit underwhelming. It definitely has the doughnut effect, decent centre, deprived layer and back to relative suburbia. So to me they are both big cities with good and bad things. As for Greater Leeds, as a Calderdale resident, proud of my Halifax roots, I wouldn’t be too happy. I do however feel that LBA is the airport for the region and can happily support - so let’s hope that we see some good news for development of both the terminal and new routeswe can then move back to more airport debate.

I have always thought there should be a Greater Leeds. For those who live in neighbouring areas, those areas wouldn't lose their identity, if anything they would benefit from it. The city of Salford is within Greater Manchester, no difference really. Interestingly the majority of people I have met from Bradford say they're from Leeds when they're traveling. Many of them also want a Leeds postcode.

Ah the good old post code debate... very contested amongst Pudsey folk who live on the other side to Asda. :ROFLMAO:

If Burnham could get his way it woulnt surprise me if he wanted any whole new northern powerhouse to be referred to as Greater Manchester. That said, he is very forward thinking and how West Yorkshire could do with someone similar. Rather than someone Brablin (delib typo) on making false promises

They are not alone. Several areas of Leeds don't have Leeds post codes. Drighlington is BD11. Tingley & East Ardsley are WF3.. But then there are places that come under Bradford Met. such as part of Menston, Burley in Wharfedale and Ilkley that have LS29 postcodes.

It does cause confusion though that the city boundaries and postcodes, which came well before 1974, are not aligned with each other , particularly when the likes of insurance companies base their premiums on a post code. And in that regard, having a BD postcode isn't good news.

Shame on them (slightly tongue in cheek). I now live in Halifax (due schools) but whilst I can see Bradfords flaws, I’m immensely proud to come from Bradford.
It has improved, it is slowly improving all the time and as the arena comes in to use it should increase social and nighttime footfall.
The rail connections, including the unpleasant Interchange do it no good whatsoever. If they can fix that, now looking less likely it will be a huge boost.
North Parade, Little Germany, Sunbridge Wells are areas that offer hope.
But, until more inner city jobs are created the challenges and problems will remain,
The ‘Leeds City Region’ hinders not helps Bradford. Prime example the withdrawal of HMRC jobs from Bradford and Shipley to centralise in Leeds.
The planned levelling up of the north (obviously now at risk again) does tend to focus on specific centres, which it can level up but leave other conurbations worse off than before.

It seems these days you have to have the clout to get money out of the Government. Manchester has shown there is strength in size and numbers. West Yorkshire as a whole needs to do the same and put aside local rivalries. Plus as others have mentioned you need a strong, popular leader who the Government are scared of, like Andy Burnham.

Well there we have it folks. Confirmed. Leeds HS2 and NPR cancelled. Leeds and Bradford have been completely shafted

Also, a snippet on the proposed mass tram system, not sure if its light rail , tram or both.

We will start work on the new West Yorkshire Mass Transit System and support West Yorkshire Combined Authority over the long- term to ensure that this time, it gets done. That commitment begins now with more than £200m of immediate funding to plan the Mass Transit System and start building it, with the first services operational in the second half of this decade

As I said yesterday. This token gesture is just something else to be canned later on. We've had the planning done for such transit system twice already now and then scrapped. This won't be any difference. This is something that will be scrapped on the grounds of cost at a later date.

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
