Yep, he seems to fail to mention routes to SOU, BHD & DUB which all will attract business passengers. Like Heather said, he is ignoring the fact the new terminal will attract business routes..!

But again as Bigman said Business pax will not be a driving force for these next couple of years, do I think it will return/pick up again? of course face to face meetings are generally much more preferred then over the internet.

The rules about a Council Official becoming a Councillor (at to my retirement 16 years ago) were that after a period of five years retirement, the a former official could seek election to be a Councillor.

Quite an interesting read, i would say positive, with some negative comments regarding business travel/flights.

Richard Beecham was the same reporter who put out the numerous articles in the YEP and YP about the NEF report which contained a load of nonsense.

He seems to only report anti airport news.

Will business be such a driving force in the future though? The last 9 months has seen the world change. The advent of Zoom, Skype and Microsoft Teams has vastly reduced the need for face-to-face meetings. Home working for many is likely to become the norm rather than the exception. Cutting our expensive and largely unnecessary travel to/from meetings by whatever means (car/rail/air) is becoming more desirable. Travelling time is lost time as far as businesses are concerned, so cutting it down makes financial sense as does the inevitable expenses bill.

as someone who has moved to online meetings only since March, my opinion would be it has only increased my preference for face to face meetings.

the death of business travel has been predicted after every crisis over the last 20 years, but every time it comes back.

The big problem for LBA re business is its location. Not because it’s on top of a hill, but being so central in the country, thus making most overland options quicker, easier and more attractive. The likes of Amsterdam, Belfast and Dublin do well because there is water involved to get over and there is frequency choice. There is no reason why, with more than one flight a day, and with better timings that the likes of anything in Western Europe couldn’t do well. Thinking particularly CDG and BRU, but equally the likes of FRA and MUC. With onward feed through these hubs this tops up pax numbers but needs the right sized a/c too and our options are a bit limited there, especially whilst post COVID recovery takes place. Back to the domestic situation, there are some possibilities out there, namely EXT and ABZ and possibly CWL that are long overland journeys but your traditional GLA and EDI have had their day. Business travel will bounce back because face-to-face will still exist, it won’t all be Teams or Zoom meetings post COVID. Leisure does speak for itself and will continue, bouncing back quite quickly. And finally, if we get a shiny new terminal, then there is a real increased chance of getting some of the services mentioned. This application really cannot be rejected, not just for LBA’s sake, but for the sake of the whole region and if the planners have their heads turned by the anti-airport lunatics then they really do need their own heads testing. I am sure I will have more to post today but if I don’t can I take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and here’s hoping 2021 is a better year for us all

I think most airports post COVID will heavily relay on leisure flights (Inc MAN, LGW & LHR) as you can see VS have put all their leisure flights into LHR, BA doing the same shifting from LGW. personally I don't see anything wrong with leisure flights as that's where the money is, holiday makers spending / drinking / eating in the airport, on the aircraft.. I'd much rather see Jet2 adding more Greek & Canaries and actually selling them rather then say Eastern or Loganair adding UK domestic, most likely not going to sell, seeing the start dates pushed back and the loads empty, waste of money, waste of time and could put them off operating in the future.

Post Covid, LBA needs AF - x2 Daily CDG - E190 Hop
a strong German route again similar frequency & A/C size
return of LHR with a lot better timings.

The premise of business flights, they have to be regular, frequent , reliable with a high volume of rotations ...its a difficult market to serve, and costly.
ABZ was a good route...until the oil industry traffic decreased and I think EXT is also more leisure as there isn't really a massive business hub there.
My gut feeling is that our success will be borne out of leisure flights serviced by good carriers...we have strong success in this area already.
Business flights would be fantastic but they are the icing on the cake.

I think if Lufthansa & Air France etc offering good flight times/ onward connections, you will get a good mix of Business and Leisure passengers.
CDG, you will get Disney pax on the flights as Disney sell seats through AF seats.
pretty much was KLM have done with AMS, I know many people that use that service for leisure only.

The headline is about the only good thing in it although I hope there is truth in the approval suggestion! It has already been said that the lack of business flights is due to the poor current infrastructure so the idea of a new terminal is to help change that and benefit the local economy. It won’t be about the domestic market, more about the Western European market. And a signed trade deal can’t do that any harm. Time to sign off for the night as I understand the big man is on his way. Weather update for White Heather - it looks like rain dear. Sorry had to sign off with one final bad joke

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
