Great photos. DC8 - 63 looks stunning. Noticed the Dan Air 727 parked in its customary position. Was it ever parked anywhere else? Now I've seen it I can now remember the BEA viscount being where it is. I think you could see it from the bus as it drove down Bickenhill lane to Birmingham international.
I've always liked DC-8's and the CPAir livery is one of my all time favourites. Add to that CPAir's callsign 'Empress' and it evokes a wonderful image of bygone air travel.
I remember a CPAir DC-8-63 coming very low over my school (in Aldridge). It was before lessons had started for the day and we were all in the playground. It even stopped a group of lads playing football, as they all stared up at it.
I remember looking out of the lounge at the Dan-Air 727's and seem to remember that when parked the inboard leading edge slats always seemed to be in the down position.
Here's a zoom in of the Fire Training Viscount -

Wouldn't that building have made a great viewing area?

There was a lot lot less to view in those days but the variety more than made up for it. On my occasional visits
to Sheldon Country Park the stream of Airbuses and 737's can frankly become boring after a while. If i thought a stretch DC8 was due i would certainly hang around longer.
That was an aircraft that looked like it meant business.Turn me around quickly i've got windows to rattle!

Shame there isnt a few shots showing us reprobates spotting on the spiral staircase, it was like a second home in the early 80s, one would rush to the drome because of word of a special flight or best DIV's, arrive at the spiral staircase and ask "whats in" most Elmdon spotters would be on the stairs.....including me lol.

Thanks Ray. Whilst I would not want to take anything away from EMA, it would be great to have a line up like that each night and see BHX as a major cargo hub. Impressive.

Afternoon all. Some pictures from a cold but sunny BHX yesterday .Nothing too unusual but wanted to try out a new and complicated camera in some nice weather.Am pretty pleased for a first attempt, seems a lot sharper the my old one, anyway feel free to add any opinions.

The ones where no runway or airport buildings are visible make it look like they're landing in Cannon Hill Park

Anyone remember Billesley common Airshow August 1976, and the Canon Hill shows with RAF Static exhibits - Jaguar etc and the Red Devils ?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
