Is that somewhere close to Livery Street? It looks as if it's near the location of the 'holy city zoo' nightclub once owned by Andy Gray.

But Birmingham has the influential backing of UK Athletics chief Niels de Vos - who is currently organising next years World Athletics Championships in London.

He said: “Birmingham has the perfect blend of existing facilities, fantastic location, supportive local authority and a sport mad local population - all the key ingredients essential to hosting a successful multi sport Games.

" But perhaps what marks out the Birmingham bid is the unparalleled track record the city has in staging major sporting events - making it 'Games Ready' in a way that I doubt any other bidder could claim to be.”

Go Birmingham. I hope the bid is adventurous and exciting. It needs to be transformational and not some temporary stands thrown up here and there. Think big. Think long term.

Just popped on SSC and things are looking good for the city centre!

Demolition progress on Natwest Tower:

Also, the 17-storey Innside Hotel planned for Left Bank has apparently been amended to a 30+ storey residential tower, so now we have two 30+ storey buildings planned for Broad St :)

New Michelin Guide out today. Great to see a star to the Peel restaurant right under the BHX glide path get a star at Hampton Manor, Solihull.

Still have 5 stars, plus the new one in Solihull. Yummy.

Question is what airport related food could Peel serve? A 'BAC of Lamb'

Five Michelin Starred restaurants is not too shabby at all and I believe that there were a couple that narrowly missed out.

Well done to those at Hampton Manor, I may pop in as it's not too far from me.

What about a nice RataJet2uille?

Anyone been here? DC6 diner at Coventry. Went a couple of times a few years ago and it wasn't too bad. It changed hands last year and I after a recent visit it's fair to say it's gone downhill somewhat. View attachment 3986

This just about sums it up.

Perhaps, most importantly, though, people are no longer embarrassed to say they live in, or are moving to, Birmingham. Those who still have a negative impression of the second city - and it certainly is the second city - either haven't visited in the last three years or simply will not allow their opinion to be changed.

There seems to be a few dinosaurs out there who still think of Birmingham as it was three decades ago (and it was bad back then), many who visit the city after several years cannot believe the transformation. Sadly many of the outdated stereotypes are still perpetuated by the BBC, which is a bit of an embarrassment considering they are supposed to be our national broadcaster. If they spoke about any ethnic minority group, or their 'home' country, in the same way that they speak about Birmingham and it's residents people would be crying racism.

"Brum has a swagger to it now. It doesn't care what the rest of the nation thinks because it is self-assured, it's comfortable in the knowledge that it's an incredible city, whether other Brits agree or not."

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
