British Airways Club Europe | Geneva (GVA) to London Heathrow (LHR) – Trip Report
Hi all,
Just flew British Airways Club Europe from Geneva to London Heathrow, and wanted to share a full write-up of the experience. I’ve had a range of experiences with both Euro Traveller and Club Europe/World, so it was refreshing to find that this was one of those times where everything just clicked.
Booking with Avios
This was a classic Avios redemption, and a perfect example of the value in BA’s short-haul reward pricing:
Cost of cash ticket at time of booking: £684.00
Avios used: 8,500
Taxes/Fees: £35.00
Aircraft: Airbus A319 (G-EUPZ - 24.1 years old)
Cabin: Club Europe
Flight time: 1 hour, 13 minutes
I booked this about a month out — availability was still good, with 3 seats in Club remaining.
Check-in & Security – Smooth Sailing at GVA
I arrived at Geneva Airport with time to spare and had already checked in online so headed straight upstairs to security. Fast Track security was a breeze, although I admittedly walked straight past it as general security comes before the Priority Lane (which is off to the left!).
This is where Club Europe quietly shines: it’s not just about the seat onboard — it’s the smooth, stress-free flow from curb to gate.
British Airways Lounge – A Real Letdown
Access to the British Airways Lounge at Geneva was included, and I found it to be very very poor. The space is nice, albeit small, and it was a quiet area to work before my flight home, but the food and drink selection was nothing short of appalling.
Stale bread
Undercooked sausages
Overcooked eggs
Poor drinks selection
Definitely not the best lounge, but calm and quiet at least, with super fast Wi-Fi! Perhaps if BA don’t want to run this properly they should outsource to someone who can provide a better service?
Boarding, Cabin & Seat
Boarding was via an airbridge, which is fairly standard at GVA, and proceeded quickly. All boarding groups were enforced, including Group 0 for Club Europe and elite status.
BA’s 24-year-old A319 looked neat on the outside, and once onboard, I found the Club Europe cabin clean and tidy — though not retrofitted with the newer short-haul seats. I assume BA doesn’t plan to refurbish the A319s? Happy to be corrected.
I was in Seat 5F, which was comfortable. It was a full flight, with every seat taken in both Club Europe and Euro Traveller. Yes, the legroom is identical to Economy, and yes, it still bugs me a little — but over time, I’ve learned to embrace it for what it is.
Meal Service – Excellent for the Duration
Short flight? Yes.
Rushed service? Not at all.
The Club Europe meal on this sector consisted of:
A warm olive bread roll
A chicken salad with lemon mayonnaise (second option was a Greek salad — mine was excellent)
A rhubarb and white chocolate panna cotta
Full bar service (I went for a Tanqueray gin and tonic)
All delivered swiftly, but with care and attention. The meal was fresh, well-portioned, and genuinely enjoyable at 30,000 feet.
Wi-Fi
BA’s Wi-Fi service was available. It worked — a shock, and I was able to keep messaging throughout the flight.
The crew remained visible throughout, checking in with passengers and keeping the cabin tidy. Very polished for a short sector.
Descent & Arrival at Heathrow
We began our descent just before the hour mark, with smooth skies and a gorgeous view over southern England. Touchdown at Heathrow was ahead of schedule, and within 10 minutes I was off the aircraft and airside at Terminal 5.
No queues at immigration and through arrivals with time to spare.
Final Thoughts
British Airways Club Europe doesn’t always get credit for what it does well, but this flight was a reminder of the value in the product when it all clicks:
Easy booking with Avios - when cash tickets are so high
Efficient airport experience
Comfortable cabin and decent seat
Surprisingly impressive catering
Warm, well-presented crew
All in all, this was a polished and pleasant way to cover a short European route in style. Would I pay full cash fare? Absolutely not. But for Avios and low fees? I’d happily do it again.
