Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
That in itself isn't a good enough reason as the 787 can operate out of Leeds even though it doesn't. Flights between Leeds and India might not be as popular as a route to Pakistan, arguably the same could be said for Manchester on its own. So for this reason flights to india will have a better reach from Manchester as people are prepared to travel there from neighbouring regions. A niche route and LBA might be in with more of a chance.
But didnt the airport say that whilst they were looking for long haul flights they didnt want wide bodies?

I doubt LBA would accept a long haul until next year. Whilst the new facilities are much appreciated, the rest of phase 2 has yet to be delivered. Until such time that the works are completed, I doubt that the airport would want such a large influx of passengers that larger aeroplanes can bring.

I don't know where you heard that. I know they said the A321XLR would open up huge opportunities but they didn't say they wouldn't or couldn't serve wide bodied aircraft.

200-300 passengers isn't such a big deal, what you're talking about, a couple of 737-300 sized aircraft in one. I'm not saying there is a likelihood of any new wide bodied service but I doubt the airport would turn one away on the basis of the terminal not been ready yet. It's more likely an airline would hold off until it was anyway.

Im think its in one of the ACC reports.

Without question LBA isn't ever going to be seeing wide-bodied aircraft on a regular basis but there is scope for a limited number.

I think the A321XLR will offer LBA more realistic opportunities which is I'm sure why they are focusing on that. Everything the airport is doing and planning for now is focused on the A321 sized aircraft.

They didn't want wide bodies until the terminal is equipped to deal with them, which now, it is for arrivals. Even more so in 12 months. For departures though, with all the work going on, wide bodies are still likely to cause a few issues.

Just read something quite interesting on the DFF with regards to Loganair. That being that their new SOU base is now going to be 2 x ERJ145 rather than 2 x ATR72s. Those planes have to go somewhere/do something so here's hoping we are in with a shout of something - whatever that something may be

I wish something would happen route development wise finger! Yes LBA is doing great with extra flights to the med constantly been announced by our carriers but it would be nice for something a bit special to be announced ie loganair, turkish, LH etc

As nice as that would be significant opportunities remain to recapture passengers traveling from neighboring airports to destinations we already serve.

@Aviador whilst I agree with that sentiment there is also a vast opportunity when it comes to new destinations. Both my last two trips abroad have been to destinations not served from LBA, but both are ones that could easily be served, and are on nearly everyone's wishlist so perhaps both need to run hand in hand. LBA lost Mrs Finger and I's business to the airport over the hill as we have no real desire to travel to Majorca, Benidorm, Canaries (knowing there are more than just these), but clearly plenty of people do. And that's why I say they need to run hand in hand

While I don’t necessarily disagree with the view that Leeds Bradford Airport could benefit from expanding its direct international connectivity, it’s worth noting that the airport already offers direct flights to approximately 70 destinations. Realistically, even if I were to travel abroad twice annually, I would find it challenging to visit every one of these destinations over the course of my lifetime. The current route portfolio provides a reasonable breadth of choice for most leisure and business travellers, though of course there is always room for strategic growth. One of those growth areas will of course be routes to hub airports where destinations further afield can be served. Also as previously stated, additional capacity to destinations already served to offer more choice, particularly to those currently flying from other airports who would otherwise prefer to fly from Leeds.

More competition on existing routes should help drive down LBA prices which in turn should claw some leakage back, I agree on that.
But Mrs Finger and I will not be alone in flying from elsewhere to destinations not currently served. We would dearly love to use LBA for all the flying we do but very few of the currently served routes are of real interest to us, and I am sure many others too.
As @LBA4EVER suggests easyJet remain a very good hope to satisfy both those elements and ironically they already fly to both the recent non LBA served destinations we have been to from other airports, even though we didn't fly easyJet on either occasion

Where is Mrs @Finger66 wanting to travel to that you can't get to from LBA?

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
