There's a revision next year - they will be reducing to 3 weekly SIN-MAN-IAH but also introduce 2 weekly SIN-MAN terminator services, I guess it means that the number of available seats to book out of MAN will be increasing

Friend of mine went to Singapore yesterday, he was quite surprised he boarded via steps, is that normal ?IMG-20231106-WA0004.webp

I can only assume that, with the ongoing MTP work, there is, at certain times, a shortage of contact stands and that SQ has opted to accept this rather than take a delay.

Up close and personal with a RR Trent. Give the passengers an appreciation of what is going to power their 11000km journey.

I wonder if that'll set SQ up for a direct IAH-SIN route instead?

Makes sense given the investment required - crews and aircraft.

Idk. Is such a route possible even with the ULR A350s?

One would imagine so. EWR is but that routes north and the across Alaska / Canada and on return Atlantic and then to sit spots via the ME (for now).

IAH would tackle the pacific which is notorious for headwinds especially in NH winter. I guess they have all the data available and if there is demand SIN-IAH and vice versa.

Maywell be because Houston is not doing too well and most of the loads are Manchester only

Can we assume the Manchester leg wasn't doing all that great either. If the MAN-EWR leg was getting bums on seats it wouldn't be a problem surely?

Somebody in the wider forum community touched on the US market earlier today referring to the loss of all schedule flights from BHX.

I think it maybe a combination of things such as fewer people wishing to travel to the States because of shootings, a fragile political system and the general cost of living. It's not a good recipe for healthy loads to the US generally not just from MAN but from the UK as a whole.

Just one correction ... the route being discontinued is MAN-IAH (Houston).

It seems that MAN-IAH was doing ok, but with no UA interlining at IAH (federal regulations), this was mainly a point to point operation. I don’t think SQ would have wanted this to be a predominantly MAN-IAH operation. Added to that the stated intention of SQ to reduce tag-on operations.

There is an interesting thread on a.net which gives more of a US perspective on the reasons IAH has been dropped by SQ.

SQ staying 5 weekly at MAN is quite the boost in available capacity if we say a third of SIN-MAN-IAH was reserved for purely SIN-IAH. i wonder if UA is now thinking that if there were to relaunch EWR, there is scope for up to half the aircraft actually connecting to IAH

It was a collective failure by us here on this forum to neglect the 40th anniversary of SQ operating into MAN on 31st March. It seems weird to say that they were only granted the route license on the back of British airlines getting further 5th freedom rights out of Singapore

Two years after doing a special promotional service and then taking out full page adverts in the broadsheet newspapers, SQ338 made it's way in a few hours late. I can still remember ATC 1st response when they called on approach: "Good morning Singapore 338 and welcome",

The only time they've not flown into MAN was during the Covid period - there was inaccurate reported by Flight International at the time of the first Gulf War thar they suspended operation but they kept flying into MAN by routing via Rome

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
