CityJet will be opening a new base at Southend. 4 aircraft 18 routes yet to be announced employing 80 staff.

Excellent news for Southend airport which seems to be going from strength to strength. #cityjetexpansion #Southend

Yes it is don't think they've announced any routes yet though.

Boost for SEN

Bit of a curveball route this!

Yes, Milan has previously done well with both EasyJet and Ryanair historically, but AeroItalia are charging 80 EUR one-way and therefore I really can't see this being successful unfortunately.
It'll be interesting to see if it's successful. One of the challenges they'll face is lack of recognition airline wise compared to the likes of Easyjet.

It’s an interesting one, the lack of recognition could cause issue, however SEN is blessed with being on a railway line very close to the City of London and therefore does have a large market almost on its doorstep.

It is undoubtably a shame with what’s happened at SEN in recent years, do any growth attempts no matter how left field should be supported. It’s certainly in a far better position than its contemporaries like HUY, MME etc purely owing to the access to such a large market.

Conversely, it looks like Lakeland airways (or whatever they are calling themselves now) intend to start up a number of services, the first being an SEN-MME route. Not a clue how they think that will work, presumably the TVCA Mayor will be helping with his offer of a chunk of his bottomless pit of cash to help get it going,

Now if that was to go ahead that would be a gamble. Will be interesting to see if they can get it off the ground. Good luck to them, more routes are always welcome after the last 4 years.

Unsurprisingly, AeroItalia have this week pulled the Milan flights from sale and have no plans to operate routes from SEN going forward, the route had only been on sale for a month and the first flight had not even taken off, big blow for London Southend.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
