Why am I not surprised. Leeds City Council are totally clueless about traffic management, with unsynchronised traffic lights causing unnecessary delays with vehicles left idling and polluting and don’t get me started about the access to Leeds railway station by car.

Leeds City Council have put forward a 20mph zone plan for the A65 in Guiseley.

This is an A road. A major access route to Leeds Bradford Airport from Skipton and Lancashire.

The roads in North West Leeds are already choked due to the amount of house building in the area.

Supporters of the airport should make their voices heard about this and similar schemes along the A65 Horsforth, Kirkstall to Leeds corridor.

I presume it's the shopping area between Oxford Road and the roundabout near Morrisons, but it will encourage me and others to find another route - exactly what the Council want.

Personally, I'm sick to death of it all.

What’s the current speed limit on that road? 20mph is completely ridiculous. I could understand if it was something like 40mph but 20 is just having a laugh. I have next to no knowledge of the local road situation over in that area but a limit that low probably won’t solve a thing and just make it worse especially if it is an A road

To be fair its so badly congested the average speed is probably around 20mph anyway.

I honestly don't find it funny. When I was growing up the A65 was mostly 40mph from Guiseley to Leeds with small sections set at 30mph. The old methodology was in a built up area the speed limit would be set at 30mph. Its fair to say that since I grew up the land between Leeds and Guiseley has become more built up and therefore it isn't unreasonable to suggest the speed limit should be adjusted accordingly. It is still ridiculous though to suggest we should move to 20mph. Had the airport link road gone ahead as planned I would've supported its continuation to Burley in Wharfedale allowing the vast majority of traffic to avoid the built up areas of Menston, Guiseley and Yeadon. It would've perhaps made 20mph zones more doable in those areas knowing that traffic could pass through the area quickly.

Most vehicles aren’t designed to tootle along at 20mph in fourth or fifth gear so to maintain a steady 20mph will mean dropping to a lower gear with more pollution and more fuel used. No doubt the beloved Council will tell us this won’t be a problem for electric vehicles but we’re talking decades before conventional vehicles disappear entirely. Let’s hope the Council are pushing their luck with this one and the proposal is defeated but no doubt like all the other daft schemes it will be passed.

I can't honestly remember the last time I went through Guiseley at anything more than 20. The traffic is horrendous and the traffic light sequencing is a joke. It's about time they built a big park-and-ride between Guiseley and Menston on the Wharfedale line which would also serve the High Royds estate.

On a minor point Finger66, Hybrid cars in the UK are not banned from sale until 2035 so your can enjoy your hybrid motoring even longer taking advantage of electric power a slower speeds and on long journeys not having to worry about finding a charging point as you can run on petrol.

With all the advanced preparation we're going through, problems with electrical wires crossing pathways aren't going to be a problem. It's so good to know councils and the government are making all the necessary changes to enable us to go electic.
