As an Aviation and Airport Management student I’ve alway been told to channel my creative side when it comes to aviation. So I thought why not have a bit of creative fun. I would love to know dream airlines, aircraft, destinations/routes you would love to see serve Birmingham Airport (BHX), they can be super fun, crazy and unique as you would like them to be. It would be interesting to see what creative ideas everyone has :)

Easyjet

Really love the ideas @Brum X

I just think we have the infrastructure to handle at least one flight to the USA a day. Sorry I think it’s pathetic that the second city can’t manage one. It’s bull crap. And I don’t mean Primark Air (though that would have probably been more successful than Primera whatever it was called)

United to Newark / AA to JFK sorry one of those has to be feasible / workable.

But you may as well list every airline and every destination then lock the thread to be honest.

While we’re at it let’s just add Qantas BHX-SYD non stop eh?😂😂

I remember the days not long ago (pre covid) that the rumours were that BHX was about 2 years away from getting a route to Hong Kong with Cathay and also i'm sure I heard Singapore Airlines Budget carrier SCOOT mentioned a few times as well to Singapore.

Oh well, might as well crawl back under my desk as never going to happen now for at least 10 years imho.

:cry::cry::cry:

I would love an AA to JFK route more than a United to EWR route because I’m a BA Exec club member :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I know this is a wish list thread, but AA are probably the least likely US carrier:

- They've retired all their B757's and B767's, leaving just the B777 and B787
- Over the last few years they've massively reduced their TATL hub at JFK to just 7 routes
- They're part of the BA/AA/Finnair/Aer Lingus TATL Joint Venture, which likely has an interest in keeping BHX based pax flying either via Dublin or Heathrow. Why launch a route to an airport none of your competitors fly to when your own business partners already have it covered.

My wish list:

- an easyJet base by 2025
- Flyr to Oslo and Finnair to Helsinki
- United to Newark
- Hans or Air India to Toronto
- A new Caribbean destination from TUI (Antigua, St. Lucia, etc)
- A permanent (not charter) destination in SE Asia from TUI (Phuket?)

Alright let's see
Delta
BHX - JFK B767-400ER
BHX - BOS B767-400ER
Jet Blue
BHX - JFK A321LR
Air Canada
BHX - YYZ B787-8/9
BHX - YUL B787-8/9
BHX - YVR B787-8/9
WestJet
BHX - YYC B787-8/9
Air Lingus UK
BHX - JFK A330
TUI
New Carribean Destination
QR Reinstated
BHX - DOH 787/777/A350
Cathay Pacific
BHX - HKG 777/A350
Vistara
BHX - BOM B787-8/9
Hans Airways
ATQ - BHX - YYZ A330
United Airlines
BHX - ORD B767-300ER/400ER
BHX - EWR B767-300ER/400ER
European
EZY/FR/LS
BHX - BER A320/737
SAS
BHX - OSL A320/737
BHX - ARN A320/737
Icelandair
BHX - KEF B73M/757/767
Czech
BHX - PRG A320
Regional
Flybe/Eastern
BHX - NQY DH8 Q400 Or ATR
Loganair
BHX - LDY ATR72
Air Lingus
BHX - ORK ATR72

I like the Qantas idea but perhaps with their low cost Jetstar alternative 787 on a one stop via Singapore. Brisbane or Perth and perhaps Wagga Wagga instead of Sydney, protecting the Heathrow services.

Obviously not all at once and not all these airlines on same service. Also BHX - MCO on Air Lingus UK on A330

Wishlist.

For me an easyjet base must be an absolute priority, I don't think I need to list the potential of what it would bring. They are clearly testing the water, and there will hopefully be a little something more coming in due course, but we need these routes to perform solidly enough to convince them there is a market here to invest a base in. I also wonder if it's purely down to coincidence that we've seen growth from Ryanair just as easyjet start to take an interest?

Now Flybe are up and running I hope that things work out. I'd like to see a focus on some of the lost routes such as Stuttgart, Hanover, Berlin etc. I guess they'll have the historical data so we just have to trust that they know what they are doing.

Definitely agree about Jet2 bringing back Mytilene, I'd also like Mykonos added to the list too.

TUi to bring back Phuket and Goa and in the medium term start Cuba. Short haul I'd like to see a return of Porto Santo and maybe the addition of La Palma.

After seeing what has happened elsewhere not getting a Wizz base may not have been a bad thing but I definitely think there is more that they can do. Bacau, a return of Iasi, Sofia, Varna, Katowice (unserved after Ryanair dropped it) and maybe even Milan.

NYC, don't care who (although onward connections would be a massive advantage) just get it back.

Toronto. I appreciate that it's in the sights of Hans but I'd love to see Air Transat return with an A321. Canadian Affair seemed to do very well. If not maybe Westjet.

The return of Qatar and Turkmenistan. I'm not convinced we'll see Austrian back but Finnair would be a good addition.

Reykjavik. Tom Screen said they were in discussion with an Icelandic airline possibly for a 2023 start. Icelandair would offer the connections but it would be nice just to see it back more permanently than what Jet2 offer.

India must be another priority. I think getting the frequencies to Delhi and Amristar should come first but Mumbai must definitely be a target.

Newquay. Don't care who it is.

Iberia Express to increase capacity to Madrid.

That'll do for starters :)

I remember the days not long ago (pre covid) that the rumours were that BHX was about 2 years away from getting a route to Hong Kong

At the time Birmingham was the second largest unserved market from Hong Kong, after Geneva I think it was.

There was this from December 2018:

And this in March 2019:

I remember BHX being second after Geneva as well, but this indicates Geneva was still top unserved in Europe, with BHX being 5th after Berlin, Prague and Lisbon.

Its not Ironic at all its due to huge ammounts of Chinese Students at Manchester University, also its looking more and more likely
that Juneyao are going to start as they were due one flight which is now 6 and strong rumours of Shanghai starting on a scheduled basis

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
