The Air Transat A321 has just departed YUL and seems to be turning in the right direction. So unless FR24 has got it's destinations confused, it is due at BHX at 06:58.

Its incredible to think BHX still can attract Air Transat at least a twice weekly service from Toronto on the A321 NEOS, MAN & GLA are served all year round by them, why not BHX?

I don't know. There must be a significant demand from the West Midlands (add in the East Midlands and it's even greater).
Any idea why this flight from YUL is operating? I'm guessing it's a 'one off' and can't yet find a departure from BHX listed for it.

Air Tanker A332 due in today from Brize Norton to continue operating for TUI presumably covering for their current aircraft shortage.

Great to see Transat here again & think it’s a bit strange to travel so far for work - but great for us. We used to have several Canadian flights a week & now of course 0 has the whole U.K. market diminished or just from midlands ?

BA have some of their A380 maintenance done in Manila. If the maintenance is cheap enough (price not quality) to offset the cost of flying the aircraft there and back, makes sense too.

Depends how far back you're comparing things to.

2019 saw more passengers travel to Toronto than any other year in the last 20 years.

For Canada as a whole, in the last 20 years, only 4 years had higher passenger levels than 2019.

What's changed over the last 20 years is that smaller airports have lost their routes to Canada as airlines have concentrated on London, Manchester & Glasgow. Similar if not more passengers are travelling to Canada - they're just not flying from their local airports anymore. It's the same trend that we've seen happen with the US market over the same time period.

Let's hope that with the coming of aircraft like the A321-XLR those smaller airports will start to see a return of these services and an expansion into other markets.

FR24 is showing another National B747 due, this time from Baltimore (BWI). ETA of 16:38 using callsign NCR872, but currently no registration given.

A bit of a general round up.

BHX has probably the three largest low cost European operators in Ryanair, EasyJet and Wizz who today have 43 scheduled flights, Ryanair 24, EasyJet 14 and Wizz 5. Not that long ago that would have seemed a distant dream.

Jet2 have 23 and TUI 15.

Speaking of TUI the Air Tanker A332 after operating Teneriffe returns to Brize Norton.

Total scheduled departures looks like 118.

The latest on the National B744F from Baltimore N8872 N919CA is that it is due around 00.05E Saturday early hours. However N936CA ( anniversary colours) has just arrived from Miami N8870 on route to Liege. This is from FR24 info.

N936CA was routing Miami - Liege, but FR24 is showing it as' diverted to BHX'.

All very confusing to be honest. It is showing an arrival time in Liege of 00.02. At least we have one here already from MIA.

I've just watched N936CA depart BHX for SNN on FE24. It departed R33 and according to FR24 it was at 1100ft by the end of the runway (not sure if that includes the airfield elevation, which I think is around 325ft), so possibly empty.

Speaking of TUI the Air Tanker A332 after operating Teneriffe returns to Brize Norton.

Air Tanker actually departed to Manchester, covering for B788 G-TUIF which is currently at LTN being converted to short haul configuration (an extra 21 seats being added), so along with G-TUIH, are the 2 TUI short haul B788s for this summer, presumably to be based mainly at MAN & LGW

Today currently showing a 763? operating to Espargos and just one 737H positioning out to Bristol, must be nightmare for the planners.
