I do hope that GALBA idiots and the people attending the Conference in Glasgow later this month, realise that the biggest change to the climate can be happening in the Canary Islands at the moment. Volcanoes erupting Mind you in their thinking they will blame this on climate change.

Folks. not sure if this has been mentioned, apologies if it has already. But an update has been uploaded on the airport website stating that, if the terminal is rejected by the Government, the airport will instead build the 2019 consented terminal extension: Link

A boss move that puts pressure on the government, and makes GALBA look a bit silly.

Yes it has, it was the main topic of discussion last week, but thanks anyway for the post. Totally agree too!!

What were the plans for the 2019 extension?
Basically a new add on, of significant size, but entirely for arrivals with new baggage reclaim, double size carousels and new customs area. Then later, the transformation of the old arrivals area into part of departures in the old terminal building. It will be better, but never anywhere near green.

Not much longer I suspect. Early 2022 would be my bet. If no decision by the year end, then I think it could be back to plan A with the 2019 extension.

Here's a long shot given the jamboree about to start in Glasgow.

The government announces now that a nasty old dirty airport terminal poisoning the country is to be demolished and replaced with a more efficient carbon neutral terminal helping to save the planet creating many new construction jobs in the process as part of its leveling up lark getting brownie points all round.

I should be a government adviser really

I very much hope you are right, and yes you should. But you will have lots of competition here on the LBA forum.

It will serve a purpose in that it will facilitate an additional 3m pax pa. Provided, the facilities both arrivals and departures are up to a high standard, I forsee no issues LBA attracting additional servicss.
But the airport will just keep its same old bad stigma, one stigma is that its known for bits stuck onto the old building!
The airport needs and has to have a completely new terminal to move forwards or else once again we will just be in the same position, ok yes we might attract more pax with current airlines using LBA adding additional flights but also providing we have apron space available. Im sorry but adding bits onto the existing terminal is not acceptable for yorkshires so called prem airport.

Fair enough but what is the alternative? If the new terminal is turned down, which would be crazy, what else is there to do?. Stage 2, after the new arrivals terminal would then be to rebuild the departures/check in area. Better than nothing but not ideal! Knocking down the existing one and rebuilding on the site is not really feasible. Moving to a new site is not possible, where to go?? On the other hand doing nothing is not an option. Other airports will continue to expand and take traffic from the West Yorkshire area. The only sensible plan is to build the new terminal.

Manchester Airport has had bits added to it on numerous occasions, since I first visited in 1965 and it has not stopped passengers using it.

The way things are going, I'm not likely to be around when the new terminal/extension is built.

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
