Pork pie salad for us today - making room for Christmas. Happy Christmas to you too.
I love a Pork Pie! I seem to be one of the few people who also likes the jelly. Not if it's cold, but when it's properly warmed to room temperature it melts in the mouth and provides a slightly salty compliment to the meat and pastry.
Our local butcher does Game Pie for Christmas which is pretty much like a Pork Pie but with a richer variety of meat. I shan't bother this Christmas, as I'll be spending it alone.

I'll not hear a bad word against beans on toast. It's been my evening meal on many an occasion. Sometimes spiced up a little with a dash of Sriracha Hot Sauce.

Kevin

I thought about adding some sauce but ended up simply dropping in a little grated cheese.

We also have a Game Pie at Christmas, our local Deli should hopefully be getting them in this week. It's usually shared between us all but as there will be no visitors this year I think I'm going to freeze half of it.

Love the Pork Pie jelly too (y)

Farleys Rusks with a strong coffee laced with blended malt whisky, had another long deep sleep so missed shortest day. Did I miss much?
I used to love Farley's Rusks!. Haven't had them in many years, but would have them either as a biscuit or soaked in warm milk.
As for missing the shortest day, you didn't really miss anything.

Only Boris and Co spouting on again at a press conference. I don't watch much telly but we did watch part of a programme about snow animals whilst having our lunch. I thought how pleasant it might be this winter to be able to hibernate for several months like some of the creatures featured.

In my part of the West Country it drizzled and mizzled all morning then from mid-afternoon it rained, heavily at times, and it's still doing so. The BBC forecast yesterday for today was sunny intervals and a few showers. We didn't see Mr Sun all day.

I don't know about the rusks although the whisky seems a good idea but problematical as we didn't see the sun rise over the yardarm because of the murk and rain. Then again, perhaps that only applies with rum.

I saw a deal on Amazon and went for it, Farleys Rusks, a meal in a biscuit fortified with the necessary vitamin and mineral needs for sick people and I suspect I am sick for sleeping so much. I think they are scrumptious eaten dry and I remembered the taste and flavour.

Hibernation is a good idea, something I try to do as I answer to no one so have no obligations. The freedom of choice is wonderful and being alone is nothing to fret over.

Kevin, make the meal of your choice, a couple of bottles and your choice of entertainment, what is there not to like? I am mindful of your recent loss so ignore me if you wish. Apologies if I am insensitive, I have been alone a long time and set in my ways...

Rollo, I hate to nitpick but this day is Solstice, as equinox implies equal light and dark as I am sure you already know. Sorry if my law education gets in the way but I was taught the art of finding error or weakness in evidence or statements.

Happy holidays!

Yes JENNY you are correct and I do know and I've always known only problem is I always mix them up, stupid boy!

Sorry and best wishes to you.

Even though I'll be spending Christmas alone this year (my Sister lives in Australia and I have uncles, aunts and cousins scattered around England - I can't visit any of them), I'm determined to have a Christmas dinner. It will be quite simple. A chicken breast replacing turkey, but I won't forego pigs-in-blankets, roast potatoes, roast carrots, sage & onion stuffing and a good rich gravy. I'm not too bothered about desserts (I don't like Christmas pud, but do like Christmas cake - and if there's any brandy butter going!), so I have 3 nice cheeses ready. I'll probably make a last trip to the local Co-op tomorrow to get a bottle of wine, maybe some mince pies and if they have one, a small bottle of port.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Kevin

Enjoy all you have but why a small bottle of Port? I have a bottle of Madeira and a lot of good cheddar to splurge upon as I do not do Christmas and such dinners are an alien concept.

Turkey for Christmas dinner.......one of the best yet.

Turkey curry on Boxing Day.......a long standing tradition in which I usually use up the last of the meat.

Turkey fajitas today.......for the first time ever.

Turkey casserole tomorrow? Either that or turkey sandwiches as there is still a wedge in the fridge!

On the 23rd Dec Mrs F and I were debating as to whether we'd have enough :wideyed:

How about chocolate-covered turkey and ice cream for a dessert?

Wish I'd thought of that, it sounds so much nicer than the turkey casserole that we ended up with :vomit:

Still, it's all gone now and it made good use of the leftover veg.
When my parents were alive, we usually had so many guests on Christmas day that along with turkey, we would have a honey roast ham. A turkey and ham pie would usually follow a few days after Christmas.
I remember one Christmas, I arrived home around 2pm on Christmas Eve just as the honey roast ham came out of the oven. We had some lovely crusty bread and along with a little English mustard, I had one of the best sandwiches ever.

Kevin

Mrs F is in agony with a wisdom tooth and struggling to eat so I'm going to make some soup. I bought a huge bag of carrots today not realising that we already had loads in so I think I'll go for carrot and coriander.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
