Blue Islands

Blue Islands have issued this statement on their website today. Until 12 April they will only be linking the Channel Islands and mainland UK via Southampton and Bristol.

Blue Islands maintains essential lifeline routes as our islands enter unprecedented territory

Following announcements by the States of Guernsey and theGovernment of Jersey advising islanders to consider avoiding all non-essential travel to and from the islands, we are entering unprecedented territory with the impact of Covid-19.

Blue Islands has implemented a revised timetable, effective from Tuesday 17 March until Sunday 12 April ensuring the maintenance of critical lifeline routes as a base provision for essential travel.

We know our services, particularly from both Guernsey and Jersey to Southampton are heavily relied upon by both island communities for essential travel for medical purposes. Therefore to sustain these vital links, Blue Islands will operate morning and evening inter-island services between Guernsey and Jersey, as well as twice daily Guernsey to Southampton and Jersey to Southampton services plus a daily service to Bristol.

The full revised schedule can be viewed here.

Links to Southampton are absolutely not threatened following the closure of Flybe. Blue Islands operated the vast majority of frequency on the Jersey-Southampton route and will continue serve this crucial route, adding additional services where appropriate given the reduction in Flybe operated capacity.

Neil Garwood, Managing Director of Southampton Airport said, “Maintaining connectivity to the Channel Islands from Southampton is of paramount importance to us. My team is fully committed to working with Blue Islands to keep this service going and effectively managing the impact of Covid-19.”

Passengers booked on a service not operating while the revised schedule is active will be automatically moved to the nearest available flight and/or an alternative airport and will receive an email notification advising of this change.

For greater flexibility, passengers booked for travel up to and including 12 April may change their flight to another date and route without any change fees (although fare difference may apply).

The health and safety of our passengers and crew is always our highest priority. Blue Islands is responding quickly to this situation and our team is working hard to meet our customers’ needs. We would ask our customers for their collaboration and patience during these challenging times.

The Blue Islands website is showing a restart on BRS-JER from 3 August with flights operating 4 x weekly though August (Sun, Mon, Wed and Fri) before going daily in September.

Airport press release now confirming this.

Blue Islands have confirmed their earlier intent to resume their BRS-JER service from 3 August (tomorrow).

Flights will be 4 x weekly in August with a planned return to the usual daily frequency in September.

A number of posts on other forums in F4A suggest that Blue Islands currently plans some expansion for next year - all subject to the pandemic recovery timescale no doubt.

BRS-JER is shown as 12 x weekly for peak summer 2021. I can't remember as many weekly flights as this for a few years. Originally Blue Islands did operate 2 x daily most days on BRS-JER but not in recent years so far as I can recall.

Maybe adding extra flights to Bristol instead of flying to Cardiff? They'll no doubt hope passengers to and from Jersey to southern Wales will travel via Bristol.

I wonder how Blue Islands are coping with the easyJet competition on the Bristol-Jersey route. Tomorrow, for example, the easyJet seat selector is currently showing 153 occupied seats. I wonder how many of those would have opted for Blue Islands had there not been an easyJet flight.

easyJet only operates 3 x weekly against the longstanding daily service from Blue Islands. It would be a great shame if Blue Islands are finding the route hard going in the face of easyJet's presence, especially if easyJet only intends the Jersey route to be a stopgap until things begin to return to normal across its network post-pandemic.

The same applies with Loganair and Aberdeen although as with Blue Islands and Jersey there is no winter easyJet service and, currently, none next summer either.

Summer 2026 - Blue Islands
I can't be certain, but I think S25 saw Blue Islands operate BRS-JER at 9x weekly?
The summer 2026 schedule shows the BRS-JER route is scheduled to operate at 11x weekly.
Mon, Thu, Fri and Sunday are double daily, with a daily flight on Tue, Wed and Sat.

Yes I think the easyjet route to jersey was a slot filler during restrictive Covid travel period. If easyJet did return on the route it wouldn’t likely be a daily service to jersey however and how committed would they be to continue the route year round ?
Other options would be Aurigny or Loganair I guess.

Sad times for Blue Islands who have operated from Bristol for many years starting with their jeststreams and competing against Flybe. I’m guessing it’s signs of the time that jersey is no longer the route in demand - once operated simultaneously by British airways , Flybe and aurigny

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
