Now come , come Roy, you old royster joyster, yes I did include the LoveManchester ref but to be fair they themselves were simply para-phrasing other references, there are a myriad refs to other sites which are gushing in relation to this topic.

I prefer however to look at actuality over potential and there are 30 towers currently going up in Manchester as of now, in fact two already erected ressemble the twin towers, tangible proof that investment is ALREADY here.

.....and the poster who suggested he wanted to read the Birmingham thread SPECIFICALLY to read about about BIRMINGHAM, "Well hang on" , surely we are not so insular that we can quote Manchester comparisons in one breath with reference to routes but then cry foul regarding mega investment in MANCHESTER in the next :)

Aceshigh, why dont you just do one and leave us alone. Bye

:finger:

Re: Qatar

Would take a frequency increase over equipment upgrade as I have no doubt it would provide a boost to the pax numbers. While the current schedule does well to open a huge number of connections, you're still likely to encounter a massive layover at one end of the journey via DOH unless you alter travel plans hence losing the flexibility.

A double daily on the busier days e.g. Fri - Sun suddenly looks a lot more attractive against the likes of EK, AF, LH etc.

Can we please get back on topic. This thread is Route, Development and Rumours - BIRMINGHAM. Whatever your point is Aceshigh, just drop it and move on

Agreed - please everyone just ignore these posts like they're not there. Anyone who reads/posts on other aviation sites will not find it hard to recognise this poster! It's all pro Manchester (absolutely nothing wrong with being biased), however, by the same account anti EVERYTHING else. No balance offered in the posts whatsoever.

In fact the number of times 'Just Birmingham' mentions Manchester I would not be surprised they are the same person. I will be the first to apologise if I'm wrong.

Go away.
No one cares about your insecurities.
Back on topic please.

Qatar currently have 30 787-8s which are earmarked for Air Italy so I guess the 30 incoming 787-9s will replace them like for like.

Would be great to see an upgrade of any sorts. I think as one poster pointed out if frequency were to be upgraded it would likely be 10 weekly max.

I was eating my cereals this morning chilling before heading off to work and was watching BBC MIdlands today and the first things that came out of her mouth were "New flights starting from Birmingham Airport"

As you can imagine my head was fixed on the TV, I sat up straight on my sofa, only for it to be the announcement of x 2 extra daily flights with Turkish airlines.

Oh I said to myself.

I must admit I felt quite disappointed at that news, was just expecting it to be something NEW that we didn't already know. But then I suppose that's the problem with these forums, we know the news before the news.

But as they say EVERY LITTLE HELPS :)

Not actually sure when the QTR 788s go but I think before next summer but my guess is that they will
add 789 on a random basis as the fleet grows, I can confirm that MAN will be 2 A350 and a B787 which
like BHX I expect to vary between B788 and 9. To be honest I will be glad to see back of 788 as they
are not the best looking aircraft as they look squashed up, the 789 look a whole lot better and A350 have the wow factor

I suspect they will be on a 1 for 1 basis as the 789s arrive. As a 789 arrives they'll send a 788 off to Air Italy.

Definitely agree with you there. Not wishing to sound ungrateful but I've always felt the 788 doesn't count as a proper widebody - the 789 is pretty much the same size as the 772 however. Now if only Air India could get some 789's as well!

Just glad BHX was on the news for something positive for a change (y)

Now here's one to conjure with.

If EZY pick up Lisbon from Manchester will TAP consider re-locating to BHX?

It's either Pro-Manchester or nothing at all, come on BHX forum we've all encountered that at some point!

I think our friends up north aren't keen on any of us chirping up about something good at BHX. But, we're all biased towards our local airport at the end of the day so I'll close the book on that one.

Stay on topic GliderPilot...

Great things coming from the airport now rather than the ghastly doom and gloom drop in routes and pax figures we were starting to be accustomed too.

In reference to Qatar Airways, I think we will be seeing a frequency increase if loads are consistent but not quite to twice daily (That's just my personal opinion). Furthermore, I'd be surprised if we see the A350 but I'd love to be proven wrong. As others have stated the 787-9 is more probable as they begin to enter service.

Turkish increase is good, an oppertunity to see the 737-MAX8 more often at BHX.

Looking to the far east, the airport has been pursuing this China route for years now. With competition not only from the South but now the North too, what has significantly changed on our turf? Either way, I remain as hopeful as when the first China Southern charter flights were announced.

As per the other airlines named in that article 'starring' Tom Screen, there is positivity oozing from all aspects of aviation in Birmingham so hopefully, as the next few weeks roll by information about those will begin to be released.

Love your optimism Glider. Agree on all points. Maybe next few months will be the most crucial.

Being a Bluenose though there is always that nagging doubt. So much will depend on a deal or no deal. Not necessarily that people will stop coming here but will the people here have the appetite to queue to get there!

Notwithstanding that I can see us easily accommodating:

Expansion of India with Mumbai and maybe Chennai added.
Qatar larger aircraft rather than twice daily and before others in the region get a look in
Jordan !! Just a hunch
Jet Blue - no way that Tom would have mentioned them without consent.

Looking good and let's focus on what Birmingham needs. Up in the City Centre at the weekend and I have never seen it so busy (or anywhere else for that matter). Very exciting.

BHX maybe well down in terms of pax numbers all the flights we have are remarkably full
Looking at Sunday and load factors were 95% + over the whole days flights
About 2,000 spares seats all day.
And it is load factors like that which create confidence and growth. Rather have that than loads of destinations with 3/4 or half full aircraft and no sustainability.

And that is a good foundation to start building growth again. If flights are full then presumably people are being turned away.Lets hope the growth is better managed this time and not encouraged to be a free for all again.
If there appears to be possible growth on routes encourage 1 competitor not 2 or 3.

How do actual movements compare to last year ? When on 33 there's still a steady stream of arrivals compared to last year.

While perusing the RoutesOnline website this morning I saw an advert for BHX at World Routes 2018 - in case anyone is going, BHX are at stall HNS-311 and are serving curry dishes ;)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
