Please tell me Brum X, how are you able to take all your photos from above, looking down on the subjects whether they be here at the airport or in the city centre. It can't be very tall step ladders surely.....
PS: The photos are always great.

They look as if they were taken from the multi storey car park next to the site.

Great to see good progress being made :)

I cant take credit for these photo's, they are from a regular forumer on another website. I did credit him at the start of the update. :)
But yeah as Ray has stated, it would be quite easy as there is a multi storey car park at the back of this new hotel.

Another BHX experience

Arrived last night, more or less on time aboard the Monarch from Paphos parking on one of the 70's. Pilot had to apologise for the delay in disembarking - the Swissport steps were having to be manually adjusted to the door height! Boarded coach to terminal, arrived at door and the awaiting doorman had not got the key to open the door. Fortunately the driver knew which buttons to press. Joined the walkway to immigration - no other flights around, so why we had to have an extended walk beats me. Needless to say the passport recognition system did not recognise me - in fact it never has! Collected cases and headed for the train to International - not running, message to use the bus - which bus where? Called our "taxi" who was waiting at the station, who came and picked us up, whilst contributing anther £1 to the airport. Just thankful it was not raining too much, but it was cool!!

To be fair they are not used to dealing with A320 or A321's.:( The other thing that has struck me recently
is how many posts refer to being bussed to or from the aircraft.Has anybody not on Emirates or Qatar actually
used an air bridge recently?

used an air bridge recently?

Fairly recently I had an air bridge directly on to the Thomas Cook aircraft.

Norwegian also used the air bridge but only to the steps at the end where we went down then back up the aircraft steps.

Monarch last week was a bus to the remotes.

I only really asked because of an experience i had last year when on arrival we disembarked onto an air bridge
but halfway along were directed down stairs and onto a bus that took use 100 meters to the door. I found that strange
but i suppose there is a good reason.

Ray. I see you had a similar experience boarding.Do you know the reason this happens? Is it down to turnaround speed
using both aircraft doors or is there a cost involved if the aircraft is connected to the bridge?

I'd say it could well be both.

The loco's do prefer to board using both front and rear doors to speed up the process and in our experience it worked very well.

What's the latest with the drop off car park? There were very long queues for the long stay car park today, backing all the way back down to the island for the train station.

The 'premium' drop off car park is now open, I've not used it so can't comment but there have been some grumbles on social media. The free one is still being worked upon, not sure of an opening date.

Hilton Garden Inn to open at Birmingham Airport

Castlebridge Hotels Birmingham Airport has signed a franchise agreement with Hilton to open a Hilton Garden Inn hotel at Birmingham Airport.

The 178-bedroom hotel will be built using modular build technology with main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland working in partnership with CIMC Modular Building Systems, which enables components of the new hotel to be manufactured in China and transported to site for final assembly. The hotel is set to open summer 2018.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton said: “Often cited as the best place to invest in the UK outside of London, demand in Birmingham is growing fast. Infrastructure projects will only boost that growth and Hilton Garden Inn Birmingham Airport is in a terrific location—we can’t wait for it to open next year.”

Jenna Dienn, commercial director at Castlebridge Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wylam Investments, said: “We feel that this is a great time to be developing the hotel and restaurant due to the increase in passenger numbers and the airport expansion. The hotel is going to be a huge success and we look forward to the opening in the summer of next year.”

Jo Lloyd, commercial director at Birmingham Airport, added: “We have been experiencing record passenger growth as more and more passengers and airlines realise the enormous benefits of travelling from Birmingham and we are delighted to provide our customers with more choice and a great hotel product which we look forward to opening in 2018.”

I have seen this form of construction in action and it is amazing. Each block, services and all, just click into place. Only thing to do afterwards is straighten out the sheets and fluff the pillows. It is the future of construction. Good news that we now have such a big cluster of hotels around the airport. I count 10 within 1 mile.

Yep that's how the do it they just crane them up and swing them in its the same for cabins or state rooms as they like to call them on cruise ships.

Brum X will like the crane bit Lol

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
