The flight times from Jersey were horrendous. Just another cut from BA who‘s commitment to the UK domestic and regions market is questioned once more. The once prized EDI-LHR route is still to see frequency recovery post pandemic. Frequency not increased to anywhere near 2019 levels despite the planes being rammed full. The one winner from BA decision to cull the Jersey route will be EasyJet. I also wonder if Aurigny may take a punt with the Guernsey route?
Were BA doing it as there own route though? Don't they often do these types of routes for a Scottish travel company? As for LHR are they using bigger aircraft instead of increased frequency? There is a lot of competition with London to Edinburgh.
The Jersey and Guernsey summer seasonal routes were both available to book on BA.Com like any other route. BA on the EDI-LHR up to mid 2019 before they were retired were using a 767-300 three times per day on the route. The night stopper was one of the 763 services. The other services were a mostly 321’s and 320 with an occasional 319. Looking back I’m fairly certain BA flew 13 daily to LHR from EDI as well as 8 daily to LCY. To use tomorrow as an example - 9 services. 5 x 320’s, 1 x 321 and 3 x 319. That’s a big reduction in frequency and seats.
You make some good points. It’s interesting to see that certain international routes are currently performing better or ahead of 2019 or pre pandemic levels. Qatar being a good example. Domestic travel is still trying to catch up. What won’t help in any way is the green minister Slater, part of Sturgeons coalition in Scotland who is desperate to ban domestic flights in the UK. Here lies the real danger to ongoing recovery. Sturgeon and her green pals are no friends of the aviation, airport and travel sectors. We saw this demonstrated perfectly during the pandemic when they refused to engage about a safe return to travel. Playing politics just to be different from England.
