Boeing(BA.N) faces a public and revealing test of the carbon-composite technology used in the 787 Dreamliner following a fire that broke out aboard one of its planes at London's Heathrow airport.

British investigators say that the Ethiopian Airline's (EAD.PA) lithium-ion batteries likely did not cause Friday's fire, allaying fears about a return of the problem that grounded the Dreamliner for more than three months earlier this year, when one battery caught fire and another overheated.

Wall Street, and passengers, so far appear little concerned: the stock is expected to stabilize on Monday after slipping 4.7 percent on Friday from a near all-time high. Airlines are keeping their 787s in the air and passengers are not canceling trips in Japan, the 787's biggest market.

Some will be reluctant to travel on the type until it's firmly established within the aviation world - I've read such thoughts from some concerned travellers on other aviation web sites.

I'd be quite happy to fly on a 787. I've flown on an A380 twice with two more flights booked later this year, and it is still a relatively new type and has had its well-documented problems.

FAA ordered mandatory inspections of the emergency beacons aboard Boeing's ill-fated 787 Dreamliner. The Ethiopian Airlines incident increased the safety concerns of Boeing 787. Just two months back 787 was certified to resume commercial flights again following a three and a half month long grounding earlier this year due to problems with its lithium-ion battery system. I hope everything will be cleared soon

It's not a good read particularly when the Dreamliner saw so many setbacks during the construction and development stage. It does make you wonder if Boeing have done sufficient testing but as TheLocalYokel quite rightly pointed out the Airbus A380 has had it's fair share of post delivery problems?
