The A220 is still quite a big aircraft to fill on a daily basis (which is the frequency i’d have thought CWL would want). Maybe an aptly timed 4/5 weekly service would do the job, providing it’s to CDG and with AF for connections.
Personally, I think the fares WestJet have came to market with are competitive (and as per my earlier post are comparable with GLA and EDI, the only other regional departure points in the UK). As FLY puts above, you’ve got to consider a lot more than purely the flight cost when looking at this...
I can’t see how it would be restricted to 154 seats based upon the available runway and conditions at CWL (Usually). That hasn’t been published elsewhere either, so I’m a little skeptical of that figure.
Fares from both CWL and GLA seem quite similar, so some good introductory fares to be had over the coming days it seems.
The amount of PR i’ve seen with this across all social media has been the most i’ve ever seen for a route from CWL. It will be down to the Canadians to wish to visit Wales...
Undoubtedly Visit Wales and WG are both involved in this, and is exactly the form of service they’ve been targetting for some time - Inbound tourism to Wales as faultlessly put by Severn above.
Of course it also provides the opportunity for people to also travel the other way. Transport and...
4 weekly too, perfect frequency in my opinion. Great news for CWL !!!
Flights CWL-YYZ on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (Good timings). Flights YYZ-CWL on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Begins on the 22nd May 2026 (Summer Seasonal).
When CWL and GLA are both showing on the route map and the ACL slot announcment (Coupled with a hidden webpage leak), there’s not much you can do in 2025 as FLY as stated above.
Let’s face it, I don’t think the airport will mind, it’s amazing news … Great route with a great airline to some...
CWL and GLA both showing on the route map this evening. Presumably something in the mix !
This would be anazing news for CWL, and great news for Wales to get a direct link to YYZ.
That’s the million dollar question … And quite frankly, nobody knows.
On the plus side, it’s a route that’s not available from the whole region so could attract a fair number from outside Wales. Of course they’ll be targeting inbound tourism too via Visit Wales, and selling connections through...
With YYZ and WestJet, you’d want more than 2x weekly as they do like to sell the connections to other Canadian and US destinations. That doesn’t work so well with such a low frequency, so I would guess somewhere around 4-5 weekly would be ideal for it.
United Airlines are reportedly launching a swathe of new routes at 1PM today, there’s a teaser on their social media page which appears to be morse code.
I doubt Cardiff are in with a shout on this one, but Glasgow is being rumoured quite heavily.
Either way, positive news sounds like it’s on the immediate horizon in the coming days/weeks. If SeanM has it on X, chances are the slots have already been filed as he seems to get OAG reports (which is where the vast majority of his news appears to come from, and his sources).
Keeps us all...
Cardiff does need a bit of a boost, there have been some good news stories for 2026 already but getting some form of long haul connectivity back would be ideal. Given the reductions/issues with KLM, quite a good time to develop/rekindle a hub connection.
My bet is either QR or some other form...
