Directly across the A45 from the Tristar Hotel is where I have been on about - on the grounds at the front of the Exiles Rugby Grounds, there is a clearing and with a tall enough building say two-three story, it would give un interupted views right over the airfield and along both runway...

Great to see there is still interest in this, as many have said and its a fact the airport are not bothered about spotters, familes or visitors watching planes, so anything that was created would have to be a completely independent site or constuction, this is why I suggested the site of the...
I have just borrowed these two photos to show where I meen in relation to a purpose built two storey building could be built giving views in both directions including a roof top view over the airport noise bund.
The arrows show the location and views.

The Exiles Rugby ground down Old Damson Lane (entrance from the back and Cov rd entrance from the front), would be Perfect if a large enough and high enough all weather building was built, that would accomodate both sports watchers and those interested in aircraft.

I still feel a combined use facility built like a sports covered stand (like Hall Green Stadium) built on the Rugby Sports ground across the road from the Tristar Hotel, I bet the manager of the Exciles woul welcome a better facility that would be used for both sports watching and aviation.

That boby I remember well - used to come up the spiral and chat to us spotters about planes and just make sure no one was parked on yellow lines or near the entrance doors.
I remember rushing down from school when we had bad fog, standing on the spiral with the regulars and hearing stuff land...
The good old days on the Elmdon site 81-82 I think, its curtosy of the BHX twitter site, wow the spiral stairs near the right in the pic - used to be my second home.
E.
Shame there isnt a few shots showing us reprobates spotting on the spiral staircase, it was like a second home in the early 80s, one would rush to the drome because of word of a special flight or best DIV's, arrive at the spiral staircase and ask "whats in" most Elmdon spotters would be on...
